The Director of Advancement Services is responsible for setting the strategic direction of the operational services for the Cleveland Museum of Art’s (CMA) advancement and philanthropy program. The director will provide leadership in setting guidelines, policies and procedures for activities including gift acceptance, gift recording and reporting, prospect management and research. The director will be systems oriented, helping establish and improve processes and procedures for the advancement services team, and also collaborative with colleagues in development, major and planned giving, annual giving and membership and stewardship. The director will drive for problem-solving, efficiency, and thoughtful outcomes in the objective of reaching philanthropic goals for the CMA. Responsible for overseeing operations of the advancement services team currently including a staff of six focused on audience and prospect research, donor records, goal tracking and reporting. Serving as a liaison with the IT team, the director will provide leadership and direction for database systems and donor collection and tracking.
Requirements and Key Competencies
Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university; seven or more years’ experience in a nonprofit operations management function and managing a team. Data and constituent management experienced, especially focused on major gifts, campaigns and annual giving programs. A collaborator with strong communications, team building, project management and administrative skills with an attention to detail. Tessitura or other fundraising CRM software knowledge.
Responsibilities
- Strategizes with the team and the Deputy Director and Chief Philanthropy Officer to plan for and track the philanthropy team’s finance operations including developing a plan and managing the budget.
- Oversees the prospect management efforts and donor pipeline to help identify new prospects and development officers’ portfolio assignments.
- Assures high quality standards, accuracy and consistency of donor and prospect information including gift records and biographical data.
- Develops annual department plan to achieve goals set in the division plan.
- Ensures adherence to internal policies and procedures and keeps the team knowledgeable about the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) standards for gift records and data management.
- Manages and prioritizes projects to meet current and upcoming needs.
- Oversees research and prospect management team on the development of prospect identification strategies.
