GLOW NC (soon to be BEACON Education) a North Carolina foundation that supports The Girls Leadership Academy of Wilmington (GLOW) and soon-to-be operational Spark Academies, is seeking a leader who is an experienced and effective development professional to join our team (and live near the beach!)

The Development Director has broad financial responsibility in setting and meeting fundraising goals and objectives, tracking gifts, reconciling financial reports, providing monthly forecasts and fundraising progress reports, identifying major gifts prospects, donor recognition and stewardship. Also, developing programming, events, event program content; pre- and post event communications; and measurement of effectiveness.

The Development Director reports to the CEO and supervises the Development Officer position.

Specific activities include, but are not limited to: ● Partner with the CEO to lead the Board of Directors in creating and implementing campaign and fundraising plans. ● Provide fundraising expertise and perspective to GLOW’s long-term strategic planning, implementation and fiscal management. ● Develop and implement a major gifts and grant program. ● Prepare written proposals, informational materials, and other materials needed to secure major gifts. ● Major gift prospect identification, cultivation and solicitation with a portfolio of major donors and prospects. ● Lead Fundraising Campaigns, to include but not limited to: Volunteer management and support, prospecting, events, major gifts, planned giving and pledges. ● Create and implement an annual fundraising plan with measurable goals, analysis and strategies to meet fundraising needs, and advance organizational strategic goals. ● Oversee programs to reach new audiences, build community awareness, enhance digital presence and deliver compelling materials. ● Ensures compliance with laws, policies and procedures. ● Plan, implement and manage 2 – 3 major events and 5 – 10 small events annually.

Basic Qualifications ● Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 5 years directing fundraising efforts for non-profit organizations. ● Competent computer skills, particularly Microsoft Office, PowerPoint & Excel. ● Experienced with database/donor management software. ● Outstanding written and verbal communication skills are required, along with the ability to work professionally with members of the external community and be efficient and comfortable in situations that require public presentations in front of groups. ● Valid driver’s license. ● Must pass a NationWide criminal history and background check.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities ● Experience developing and executing philanthropy strategies. ● Experience building, executing and managing fundraising campaigns, to include volunteer recruitment, management and motivation. ● Demonstrated ability to lead a major gifts campaign; proven track record of gifts of $50,000 or more. ● Possesses understanding, experience and success in a range of fundraising strategies: major and annual giving, corporate and foundation gifts, and managing events. ● Working knowledge of planned giving.
