Position Summary

The Assistant Director of Development is an entrepreneurial and collaborative fundraising professional who will join a growing and dynamic fundraising team that is reshaping the philanthropic program and culture at UConn Health. Together with the UConn Health development team, they will fuel scientific research, medical education, and patient care with impactful philanthropy The Assistant Director serves as a development professional for the UConn Health Center and the grateful patient fundraising program.

The Assistant Director is a frontline fundraiser primarily focused on securing leadership ($1,000+) and major ($50,000+) gifts for UConn Health. The Assistant Director will work with the Sr Director on the implementation of annual development plans for assigned clinical areas and will work closely with key faculty and clinicians. The Assistant Director will also manage a caseload of current and prospective donors and solicit them at giving levels that achieve annual fundraising goals and propel UConn Health forward.

UConn Health, comprised of John Dempsey Hospital, UConn School of Medicine, and UConn School of Dental Medicine based at the Farmington campus, is a vibrant, integrated academic medical center that is in an era of unprecedented growth in all three areas of its mission: academics, research, and clinical care. John Dempsey Hospital includes the University Tower and the Connecticut Tower, which combined has over 400,000 sq ft of clinical space and 169 patient rooms. The Medical School is ranked as one of the top 10 most diverse medical schools in the nation, with 400 medical students, 300 graduate students, and 685 medical residents and fellows. The Dental School has approximately 1700 alumni since the first D.M.D class in 1972. Over 65% of the dental alumni live and practice in the tri state area. Both Schools are celebrating their 50th anniversary in 2021-2022.

 

Primary Responsibilities

  • Manage a caseload of leadership and major gift prospects and donors from the grateful patient and grateful family constituencies.
  • Conceive and execute creative ways to engage prospects and steward donors.
  • Use moves management concepts and tools to qualify, engage, solicit, and steward leadership major and prospects and donors.
  • Partner with the Sr Director, deans, center directors, department heads, and members of the faculty and staff to create annual fundraising plans with goals and metrics to achieve specific priorities across UConn Health.
  • Prepare funding proposals as needed.
  • Work with the Foundation Prospect Management team to review caseload assignments; track, analyze, and report on progress against goals; complete quarterly reports; and recommend enhancements to increase operational efficiencies, improve communication, and increase donor engagement.
  • Update and maintain contact reports in a timely manner and implement next steps of moves process according to prospect/donor engagement strategies.
  • Collaborate with the UConn Health development team members and the UConn Foundation central development programs staff to coordinate fundraising priorities of UConn Health.

  • Ability to handle multiple tasks, to assess and order priorities, and to track details in a fast-paced environment.
  • Familiar with the use of computers and information management tools, such as CRMs (Blackbaud).
  • Ability to work to the demands of the position, which may exceed a 40-hour work week.
  • Must be willing to travel; reliable personal transportation is required for this position.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license issued from state in which employee resides. Employee must maintain at their expense, automobile liability insurance coverage in the minimum amount of $500,000 or a combination of umbrella and automobile liability insurance coverage of $500,000. A certificate of automobile insurance evidencing the limit, must be provided to the Foundation at hire and annually thereafter.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree
  • 1+ years of experience in fundraising and/or relevant transferrable skills
  • Competence in Microsoft Office suite and donor management systems/customer relations management system (CRM)
