Assistant Director of Corporate and Foundation Engagement

The Division for University Advancement is responsible for the following primary goals:

• Coordinate a campus-wide, comprehensive effort to raise philanthropic funds that support the strategic plan and mission of the university.
• Manage an inclusive alumni engagement program designed to serve and engage nearly 100,000 alumni as ambassadors, advocates and donors.
• Strengthen and expand UNCW's donor pipeline through effective discovery, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship strategies.
• Ensure that external boards (UNCW Foundation Board, Board of Visitors, Student Aid Association Board, Alumni Association Board of Directors and the Friends of UNCW) are effective in their mission of supporting UNCW.

The division's fundraising efforts are enhanced by effective partnerships with the campus community as well as external constituents including alumni, parents, corporations, foundations, volunteers and friends. Development areas include annual giving, leadership annual giving, major gifts, principal gifts, corporate and foundation engagement and planned giving, as well as alumni engagement. Prospect development, events and board management, stewardship, communications and advancement services are support services for the fundraising activities of the division.

A public institution with nearly 18,000 students, UNCW offers a full range of baccalaureate- and graduate-level programs, as well as doctoral degrees in educational leadership, marine biology, nursing practice and psychology; and many distance learning options, including clinical research, an accelerated RN-to-BSN program, an Executive M.B.A. program structured for working professionals, and the nation's only bachelor's degree program focused on coastal engineering.

The university's efforts to advance research and scholarly activities have earned UNCW the elevated designation of “Doctoral Universities: High Research Activity” institution (R2 University) by the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education.

Job Description

The Assistant Director of Corporation and Foundation Engagement works with the Director to create and execute strategies for the identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of corporation and foundation prospects that results in significant contributions to UNCW and strengthens scholarly efforts across all academic disciplines. This position reports to the Director of Corporation and Foundation Engagement and works closely with the Associate Provost for Research on managing key grant proposals from identification through stewardship. This position is a team member of the Office of Corporate and Foundation Engagement in University Advancement, working in partnership with units across campus to secure funding from corporations and foundations.

The Assistant Director of Corporation and Foundation Engagement strengthens and grows the corporate and foundation philanthropy program, positioning UNCW to raise significant money through complex, multifaceted, high quality relationships with corporations and foundations. Works collaboratively with faculty, academic administrators and advancement to match university needs, strengths and interests with the interests of prospective foundation and corporate supporters. Manages a portfolio of funding prospects at the local, regional/state and national level. Manages proposal and LOI development for corporate and foundation prospects (write, review and edit content, including narratives, budgets and attachments). Maintains report and proposals deadline calendars.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

• Relevant post-baccalaureate degree required, or undergraduate degree with relevant experience in substitution.
• Minimum of five years of demonstrated successful experience in the design, implementation, and execution of successful fundraising programs, including proposal and grant writing; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred qualifications include, but are not limited to the following:

• Master's degree.
• Experience in a higher education.
• Ability to understand the nature of corporate and foundation philanthropy as it relates to higher education and the ability to communicate the critical role of corporate and foundation support in ensuring the success of the research, teaching, scholarship, and outreach mission of the university.
• Superior written and verbal communication with others, at all levels.
• Ability to work interdependently and independently in a collaborative environment.
• Possesses a passion for service excellence, integrity, a positive outlook, a strong work ethic, be self-motivated and committed to high performance and dedication to the value of higher education.
• Demonstrated record of accomplishment of public and private development efforts including proficiency in the basic principles and techniques of successful fundraising as they pertain to identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of individual, group, corporate and foundation prospects, preferably in the non-profit or higher educational sector.
