The Colorado Community College System (CCCS) is the state’s largest institution of higher education and consists of 13 colleges and over 40 locations across the state, educating approximately 120,000 students annually. In addition, we train more than 4,000 Coloradans each year through various other programs. We are hiring a Director of Major Gifts and Donor Engagement to join the Colorado Community College System Foundation. In this position you’ll develop and carry a portfolio of prospective philanthropic donors to raise major gifts for CCCS’s strategic objectives. This position designs and implements a strategic development approach to determine potential donors’ financial ability, capacity, and interest in making major gifts. You’ll conduct one-on-one visits with donors for the purpose of qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship. Examples of Duties

  • Identifying and conducting personal visits with key individual and corporate prospects to determine capacity and interest in making a major gift to CCCS.
  • Cultivating potential gift prospects utilizing relationship-based fundraising strategies including one-on-one meetings, special group events, and other engagement strategies.
  • Setting up, facilitating, and devising strategies for face-to-face meetings with donors. You’ll identify donor philanthropic interests, share giving opportunities, and close gifts.
  • Working closely with constituents to advance donor relationships, driving new/renewed giving, coordinating gift arrangements and documentation, and overseeing stewardship of assigned donors.
  • Carrying a portfolio of viable prospects. To do this, you’ll identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward prospects via one-on-one meetings and other interactions to secure support for the Colorado Community College System.
  • Supporting CCCS’s programmatic priorities by soliciting major gifts, either via one-on-one contacts, in concert with a key volunteer, or with involvement of CCCS’s leadership.


Required Qualifications


  • Bachelor’s degree in business, non-profit management, marketing, social sciences or related field.
  • Three years of professional level fundraising experience in a higher education institution or non-profit setting or equivalent.

Supplemental Information

Attributes that will contribute to success in this position:

  • Success in managing a portfolio of donors and solicitation of prospects. Proven track record of success in closing gifts at the six-figure level.
  • Knowledge of major gift fundraising best practices and procedures.
  • Practiced in managing a major project, including budgeting.
  • Passion for post-secondary education, especially community colleges.
  • Capable of traveling locally and nationally as necessary. Ability to work flexible hours with occasional weekends and evenings.
  • Working knowledge of donor databases.
  • Relationship builder who can relate to persons of diverse backgrounds, skills, and abilities.
  • Active listening skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to include outstanding persuasion and sales skills to influence potential donors.

  • Work Location/Travel Expectations

    • This position is located at 9101 E. Lowry Blvd. Denver, CO 80230.
    • Approximately 50-60% of time will include travel, primarily in the Denver metro area. Must be able to travel to develop and steward relationships with funders, colleges and college foundations. While most travel will be within the state of Colorado, travel outside of the state may be required.

    All employees of the System Office have a choice to submit a copy of their vaccination card or to agree to weekly COVID-19 testing.
