The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) is the leading anti-hate organization in the world. ADL CEO Jonathan Greenblatt—an accomplished leader and entrepreneur in the corporate, public, and nonprofit sectors—was recruited to the organization in July 2015. PRIMARY FUNCTION

 

The Associate Regional Director for the ADL Los Angeles Region assists with the planning, development, and implementation of advocacy initiatives, program activities, and community outreach strategies to advance ADL’s mission within the Los Angeles region (which includes Los Angeles, Riverside, San Bernardino and Kern counties).  This role manages the Region’s relationships and outreach to the progressive Jewish, interfaith and multicultural communities, and supports the day-to-day activities of ADL programs. In addition to communal outreach and engagement, other job responsibilities may include some, or all, of the following: incident response and investigative research, civil rights and legislative advocacy, leadership development, public relations, events planning, social media outreach, and fundraising. The Associate RD provides staff support to assigned regional committee(s) and may assist the Regional Director and Deputy Regional Director with office operations.  

Responsibilities

Primary:

  • Develop and implement community outreach including initiatives and joint ventures with progressive Jewish, interfaith and cross-cultural organizations active within the Los Angeles region (e.g., African American, Hispanic and Latino groups/Muslim leaders, Catholic scholars, and other faith leaders). 
  • Respond to and resolve complaints of discrimination, antisemitic incidents, and other civil rights issues. Coordinate with ADL’s Civil Rights Western Division Counsel as appropriate. Ensure that required reports and comprehensive incident tracking are maintained.  
  • Implement ADL programs and projects throughout the Region, tailoring them to local community needs and issues. Manage education and human relations programming. Represent ADL and give speeches and presentations in a variety of forums to promote public awareness of the organization’s work and mission. 
  • Recruit, develop, and support volunteer leadership at all levels. Provide staff support and programming to volunteer-led committees.
  • Respond to inquiries from members of the public, demonstrating a working knowledge of ADL’s policies and positions and relevant local, national, and world events.
  • In collaboration with the Regional Director, Deputy Regional Director, and Western Division Communications Director, proactively pitch news stories and features to the media. Help coordinate interviews and media response on breaking new issues as needed. Monitor online and print news and information portals for relevant coverage and identify public relation opportunities through both traditional and new media platforms.
  • Draft and edit regional newsletters or similar communications, as requested.

Secondary:

  • May schedule appointments and speaking engagements, coordinate meetings and conference calls, and make travel arrangements as requested. 
  • May provide administrative support for special events, board retreats, and coordinate regular board meetings.
  • Participate in fundraising events, cultivate potential donors, and assist in maintaining donor relationships.
Qualifications

Skills:  

  • Strong administrative, organizational, and interpersonal skills required. 
  • Proven ability to work with and influence a wide variety of people.  
  • Proven diplomatic and conflict resolution skills are strongly preferred.
  • Strong public speaking and writing skills are required.   
  • Experience in, and familiarity with, a wide range of print and digital media strongly preferred. 
  • Knowledge of issues of concern to ADL and the Jewish community preferred. 
  • Strong competency with Microsoft Office (i.e. Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint) required.  
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize and multi-task to complete projects on deadline.

Work Experience:   

  • Three to five years of progressively responsible human relations or community service experience required, including program and/or operational management experience. 
  • Knowledge of legislative processes and strategy required. 

Education:   

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience required. 
  • Additional related courses or professional training welcomed. 

Work Environment:  

  • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends when necessary to represent ADL and to attend community events. Some travel within the region.
  • ADL COVID-19 Protocol (updated periodically)ADL is adhering to CDC, State, local, and Federal orders regarding COVID-19. ADL will require that all employees are vaccinated with exceptions for medical and religious accommodations. ADL may require proof of vaccination. This role will start as a remote position but may transition to a hybrid environment when offices reopen. 

Compensation

    This position is a Grade F2, which has a salary midrange of $68,700 to $86,100. This salary midrange is reflective of a position based in Los Angeles, California. Please note that actual salaries are commensurate with experience and reflect the budget for a given position, and since ADL has a location-based compensation structure, there may be a different range for candidates in other locations.
