POSITION SUMMARY:

The Major Gifts Officer is responsible for implementing a comprehensive strategy for leadership donors, which consists of individuals and family foundations who give $10,000+ annually or those who have the capacity to make a $10,000 gift, to support the global programs and core mission support of Project HOPE.

 

The primary focus of the role is to appropriately and effectively identify, cultivate, solicit and steward leadership donors to upgrade, maintain, and increase giving, in addition to identifying top-tiered prospects who have the potential to make major gifts. As a member of the team, the Major Gifts Officer must be able to reach goals related to portfolio revenue and growth.

 

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  1. Develops systems to identify new prospects; researches and maintains individual profiles on prospective and current donors; and implements innovative, multi-channel cultivation strategies that lead to acquisition, retention, and upgrade of prospective and current donors.
  2. Develops creative stewardship strategies for donors, inclusive of providing expertise on organization’s overall acknowledgement process.
  3. Builds meaningful relationships with prospective and current donors through personal visits and extensive communication by email, phone and letter in order to build a strong and active portfolio with a focus on active engagement, appreciation, and recognition.
  4. Collaborates across departments to draft creative donor correspondence, proposals, special campaign materials, and additional communication materials as needed.
  5. Analyzes portfolio revenue throughout the year to assess results and interprets data to recommend and implement appropriate changes to targets or adjustments in strategies.
  6. Tracks donor moves management in CRM system in an accurate and timely manner.
  7. Facilitates internal staff relationships to learn Project HOPE’s programs to provide meaningful and accurate information to donors.
  8. Educates staff as needed about the major gift prospect management and solicitation process to create partnerships across departments that result in better donor engagement.
  9. Works with the director of Leadership and Legacy Gifts and other team members to manage the execution of curated, intimate individual giving events for donors in the major-gift pipeline.
  10. Works with director of Leadership and Legacy Gifts to help forecast yearly revenue and expenses.
  11. Keeps abreast of industry best-practices and services around fundraising and prospect research.
  12. Other duties as requested.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree minimum, with 1-5 years professional nonprofit fundraising experience preferred
  • Strong creative problem-solving and analytical skills, who is comfortable working in a fast-paced entrepreneurial environment and powers through challenges
  • Detail-oriented and organized
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and demonstrated ability to distill information to stakeholders in a meaningful way
  • Exemplary interpersonal skills and demonstrated cultural competency to be flexible and work in diverse settings
  • Ability to handle pressure and deadlines calmly and to communicate with diplomacy
  • Able to work independently with minimal supervision and demonstrate motivational skills and professional maturity
  • Ability and willingness to travel in order to meet development goals
  • Experience using a CRM such as Abila NetForum, Raiser’s Edge, or Salesforce, and strong computer skills including Excel and MS Office

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Track record of effectively stewarding leadership donors to five+ figure gifts
  • Experience identifying, researching and sustaining new donor constituencies
  • Proven capabilities in written and verbal donor communication, including the ability to successfully solicit gifts and expand overall donor giving
  • Ability to work collaboratively with other team members in designing and implementing donor strategies
  • Strong negotiation skills and maturity to navigate complex relationships
  • Proven ability to use metrics to drive development decisions and achieve strategic objectives
  • Knowledge of development best practices and the ability to apply them in innovative ways
  • Ability to complete time-sensitive projects and balance multiple deadlines
  • Demonstrated track record of success in a fast-paced, complex organizational structure
  • Passion for Project HOPE’s mission and ability to effectively serve as an ambassador for the organization
