Vice President, Institutional Funding

Overview

For almost 50 years, Covenant House has served and advocated for youth and young families experiencing homelessness, human trafficking, and exploitation. Our overarching goal is to end homelessness among youth and young families by helping them achieve housing stability, heal from trauma, tap into their innate resilience, and hone their interests and skills to forge new pathways to independence. This work is carried out across Covenant House sites in 31 cities in the US, Canada, Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua. 

 

Purpose of Position:

The Vice President of Institutional Funding will be responsible for maintaining and growing Covenant House International’s foundation and government sources of support for youth and young families facing homelessness.  Responsibilities include identifying and stewarding foundation and government funding opportunities; writing and reviewing proposals, reports, and other submissions; ensuring accurate tracking and timely adherence to proposal and reporting guidelines, deadlines, and responsibilities. He/she will provide leadership, supervision, and oversight as needed to the Department staff and work with Covenant House leadership and program staff to strategize and maximize funding opportunities.

The Vice President of Institutional Funding reports to the Senior Vice President, Foundation and Government Funding Support.

 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

Include, but are not limited to:

Take a leading role in the research, identification and stewardship of new and existing foundation and government funders for general operating and program support.  Work and strategize with Covenant House leadership to meet and exceed annual fundraising goals for institutional giving. Maintain a robust portfolio of foundations, identifying and stewarding relationships with foundation representatives to deepen and grow funding for CHI & affiliates. Collaborate and coordinate with the Senior Vice President, Program and Advocacy, on federal government funding strategy to maximize opportunities for CHI and U.S. affiliates. Develop and oversee the development and writing of foundation and government proposals and other written materials to ensure high-quality products.  Track grants and reporting deadlines and ensure timely submissions. Act as official liaison between Covenant House and funding sources to ensure contractual compliance that includes programmatic and fiscal reports. Lead and facilitate site visits. Maintain and enhance relationships, both internal and external, that support Covenant House services for youth experiencing homelessness.

Other responsibilities, as needed, may include:

Assist in the creation of newsletters, reports, brochures and other materials. Represent Covenant House in meetings, site visits, phone conversations, and events, as needed. General administrative tasks and other tasks as needed.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Eight (8) years experience in grant writing and working with foundation and government funders. Experience working with vulnerable populations preferred. Excellent verbal, and written communication skills, with ability to translate passion into compelling cases for support. Outstanding organizational skills. Team player, with ability to work with all levels of the organization. Flexible schedule for occasional weekend or evening events or deadlines. Supervisory experience required. Dedicated to the mission of Covenant House.

 

Minimum Qualifications 

Bachelor’s Degree Bi-lingual English/Spanish preferred National experience preferred
