ProPublica seeks an enthusiastic and collaborative individual to help manage its foundation fundraising portfolio. The successful candidate will join a growing development team responsible for raising over $40 million annually. The grants manager will work closely with the director of development to persuasively communicate ProPublica’s mission to donors with the aim of growing support from institutional funders and ensuring cohesive messaging within the department. The manager will report to the director of development and work closely with colleagues in development, finance and editorial.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with preparation of letters of inquiry, grant proposals and reports for current and prospective foundations and major donors.
  • Identify, research and help cultivate prospective foundation funders.
  • Help ensure adherence to grant deliverables and timelines.
  • Coordinate with teams across the organization (including audience, communications and editorial) to gather supporting collateral.
  • Coordinate with finance to develop project budgets and financial reports.
  • Maintain accurate foundation records, including tracking relationships, communications and deadlines.
  • Coordinate with the development services team to ensure accurate accounting of grants in the Salesforce database.
  • Assist with stewardship activities that strengthen long-term relationships with institutional donors, including drafting briefings for and coordinating meetings with ProPublica’s leadership.
  • Assist with the development of materials that support ProPublica’s overall fundraising efforts, including impact summaries, project-specific overviews and major donor proposals and reports.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Requirements:

The successful candidate will be a collegial and collaborative team player. They will have two or more years’ experience in grant writing or similar and some familiarity with the grants process, including research, stewardship and budgeting. Confidentiality, excellent oral and written communication, strong initiative and problem-solving skills are all essential, as is attention to detail and the ability to establish priorities and work accurately under time constraints. Must be proficient in the Microsoft Office suite, familiar with Google Docs and have some familiarity with Salesforce or other fundraising databases. This is a full-time position. Preference will be given to candidates in the New York City area, but we are open to exceptional remote candidates. Proof of vaccination is required to work in our office. Applicants must be eligible to work in the U.S.
