The mission of the Institute for Therapy through the Arts
(“ITA”) is to empower individuals, families and communities to grow
and heal through advanced approaches in Creative Arts Therapy,
setting the standard for treatment, practice and training within
the field. ITA is one of the few comprehensive
community-based arts therapy programs in the United States offering
four creative arts treatment modalities: Music, Drama, Art and
Dance/Movement Therapies. ITA therapists work with people of all
ages who have psychological, physical and developmental challenges
to achieve their fullest potential.
There are currently 22 full and part-time employees, operating
from the Evanston, IL headquarters, and the field, which includes
28 community-based organizations across 41 sites and four counties.
Future offices may include Wilmette, IL and another in Garfield
Park. ITA’s Creative Knowledge Center is advancing the field of
Creative Arts Therapy through training programs, supervision and
consultation, as well as hosting ITA’s Annual Integrated Creative
Arts Therapy Conference, now in its sixth year. ITA is
currently governed by a 9-member Board of Directors. ITA has been
profitable year over year with an income of 80% earned revenue and
20% philanthropic and grant based funding.
The CEO, reporting to the Board of Directors, manages the $1.5M
budget and is responsible for the strategic processes of the
organization, executing the strategic plan and developing strategic
directions and policies, delivering and maintaining the agency’s
programs, revenue growth, private philanthropy, and all components
that support program delivery and overall organizational

The agency seeks a visionary, motivational, growth-minded leader
with experience scaling organizations, developing strategic and
business plans. An undergraduate degree from a four-year
college or university is required, graduate degree such as MBA is
preferred and/or Master’s Degree in Art Therapy and/or Counseling.
Minimum of ten years of senior level management experience is
Salary range is $115,000 - $130,000, plus up to 10% bonus
potential and benefits.
