About Point Foundation Founded in 2001, Point Foundation is the nation’s oldest and largest scholarship fund for LGBTQ+ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer) students of merit pursuing their dreams and goals through higher education. Well beyond the tuition and other financial assistance that opens doors otherwise closed to these students, Point Foundation empowers its LGBTQ+ scholars to achieve their full academic and leadership potential – despite the obstacles often put before them – and go one to make a significant impact on society. 

Position Overview The primary accountability of the Senior Director of Development at Point Foundation is to lead and direct national fundraising efforts to maximize individual donors online, through mail and direct mail/direct response, and in-person activities. The senior director will create goals and strategies for retention and increased giving for donors at all levels, and coordinate campaigns with social media, email, and direct mail components. They also oversee substantial collaboration with the communications team to implement omnichannel campaigns. They will be the key staff member working with Trustees to build a program of engagement and fundraising with them throughout the year. The Senior Director is also responsible for several fundraising and cultivation events throughout the year.

 

Reports To: Chief Development Officer (CDO)

Location: New York, NY (work from home)

Supervise: Development Manager, Engagement and Advancement; Development Manager, Individual Giving; Development Manager, Transformational Giving; Development Manager, Events and Engagement

Status: Full-Time, Exempt

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

-In partnership with CDO, responsible for annual strategy for all individual donor activities

-Provide support and input for annual fundraising budget creation as necessary

-Creation and implementation of overall fundraising program designed to increase the number and dollar amount of individual gifts to Point Foundation by developing creative strategies for acquisition, stewardship, and renewal. Specific responsibility includes in-house appeals, direct mail, e-appeals, and online campaigns, including strategizing, reviewing, and writing appeals, evaluating revenue reports on appeals, campaigns, and funds

-Lead the creation, implementation, and oversight of Moves Management system within database for all individual donors and prospects

-Develop moves management strategy for, and maintains, a portfolio of their own major donors for cultivation, stewardship, and solicitation to increase giving

-Manage Board of Trustees and oversee their annual strategy for give-get and overall support of organization’s mission

-Oversee the Development Manager in the stewardship of Point’s Legacy Circle planned giving program

-Oversee the Development Manager in the design and implementation of a program to engage alumni in assisting with fundraising efforts

-Assist with strategy and execution of development/donor events at all levels

-Lead, in collaboration with the Director of Marketing and Communications, the creation of general marketing/communications materials (newsletter, named scholarship materials, planned giving materials, etc.)

-Attend Development Committee meetings

-Supervise four (4) Development Team Managers

-Participate in special projects and other duties as assigned

 

REQUIREMENTS

QUALIFICATIONS

-Minimum of 5 years’ experience related to development, annual giving, planned giving, special events and/or donor relations in the non-profit sector

-A demonstrated track record of successful fundraising

-Knowledge of direct response marketing

-Events management experience

-Understanding of moves management and ability to solicit major gifts

-Strong communication, organizational, interpersonal, administrative, and managerial skills needed

-Understanding of Raisers Edge or similar CRM systems, including data entry, invoicing, gift and pledge entry, revenue reconciliation; tracking prospect assignments, including progress toward goals

-Experience working with non-profit boards

-Bachelor’s degree required. An advanced degree (i.e., JD, MBA, MPA, etc.) and/or relevant certification is a plus

COMPENSATION:

Point Foundation offering a comprehensive compensation package inclusive of salary commensurate with experience. Benefits include 403(b) retirement plan with 3% employer contribution with employee participation; Generous PTO beginning with 10 days’ vacation, paid sick days and holidays; 100% employer paid health benefits, including medical, dental, vision; flex spending account, and life insurance. Cell phone/internet stipend provided
