Jewish Story Partners Seeks Part Time Finance and Operations Officer
Jewish Story Partners (JSP) is a nonprofit established in 2021
which provides grants and support to
the highest caliber independent film projects exploring Jewish
themes. JSP seeks a detail-oriented
take-charge individual for the part-time position of Finance and
Operations Officer. The job is
located in Los Angeles. We offer a hybrid remote/office work
schedule and flexible hours.
Job Description
The Finance and Operations Officer will be an integral part of
our small and creative staff –
helping to build, stabilize and operate an artist support
organization by managing day-to-day
financial, administrative, and human resources operations,
assisting JSP’s Co-Executive Directors
with board relations, and supervising an administrative assistant.
This role offers a rare opportunity
to be a co-creator of a start-up arts nonprofit.
Job Requirements
Desired candidate’s qualifications and skills include:
● 10-15 years of work experience demonstrating excellent
financial, analytical, operational and
managerial skills
● Enough non-profit and organizational experience to take a
birds-eye view of what’s required
to build and grow a healthy non-profit which is also a great place
to work
● Experience implementing HR best practices including equity and
inclusion
● Financial expertise to develop budgets, track spending, oversee
payroll and banking, and
generate reports – both for internal controls and external
partners
● Ability to work with CPA to ensure accurate and timely tax
filings and adherence to all state
and federal non-profit financial regulations
● Enough knowledge to know when it is time to consult with a
non-profit lawyer
● Strong writing and communication skills. Comfort and savvy
working with a variety of
constituents
● Collaborative, self-motivated, entrepreneurial spirit
● Interest in film and media, and ideally professional experience
and education in the field
● Willingness to embrace multiple, sometimes unanticipated tasks
that inevitably arise with a
small staff in a start-up environment
Job Responsibilities
The responsibilities of the Finance and Operations Officer include:
Finance and Governance
● Oversee finance, HR, and operations of JSP to ensure smooth
functioning of its programs
and positive cash flow, with an eye toward organizational
sustainability and growth
● Oversee all financial systems for the organization
including:
○ Working with bookkeeper on accounts payable, banking, payroll
functions, ongoing
financial reporting and analysis of financial statements
○ Scheduling and providing support for bi-annual board meetings and
quarterly finance
committee meetings.
○ Working with CPA firm to coordinate annual taxes, financial
audits, and 990s, and to
ensure compliance with federal and state financial regulations for
non-profits
○ Facilitating the annual budget process
○ Establishing and managing vendor accounts, relationships, and
contracts
Administration
● Work with Co-Executive Directors to manage the day-to-day
administration of the
organization and to dream and plan for the future
● Oversee office software, subscriptions, website, and technology
needs and upgrades
● Supervise administrative assistant who serves multiple
departments
● Provide office management
● Manage state and federal business registration and reporting
HR
● Supervise payroll and develop healthcare, retirement, and
benefit plans for JSP staff
● Work with HR consultant to build sustainable HR structures and
manage confidential
employee files
● Ensure timely annual reviews, on-boarding and off-boarding
processes, and other human
resources needs
