About Lubetzky Family Foundation:

Best known as the founder of KIND Snacks, Daniel Lubetzky is a business leader, investor, and social entrepreneur working to build bridges between people and increase appreciation for our shared humanity. As the son of a Holocaust survivor, he has made it his life’s work to help prevent what happened to his father from happening again.

 

Daniel’s foray into food was the unexpected outcome of his work to use business to bring neighbors in Middle Eastern conflict regions together. He conceived movements OneVoice, Empatico, and Starts with Us to foster empathy and empower individuals to practice daily habits that move our culture away from extreme, divisive, and hateful positions.

 

Through his startup investment and incubation platform Equilibra Ventures, Daniel partners with promising entrepreneurs building innovative enterprises with integrity. A proud Mexican- American, he co-founded SOMOS, a brand on a mission to bring food from the heart of Mexico to American kitchens.

 

Daniel is a member of the Anti-Defamation League’s Inaugural Board of Directors. He has received awards from The King Center (Salute to Greatness Humanitarian Award), World Economic Forum, the Skoll Foundation, Conscious Capitalism, the Hispanic Heritage Foundation, and the Horatio Alger Association for his commitment to create economically sustainable and socially impactful businesses. Daniel was named a Presidential Ambassador for Global Entrepreneurship by President Obama. He is the author of The New York Times bestseller Do the KIND Thing and a recurring shark on Shark Tank.

 

Daniel holds a BA in Economics and International Relations from Trinity University and a JD from Stanford Law School. He is a proud US citizen who emigrated from Mexico at age sixteen. He enjoys spending time with his family and practicing magic.

About the Role: 

Daniel has ambitious goals for the impact that he wants to have on our world. As the Chief Philanthropy Officer, you will be Daniel's partner to help him leverage his giving and non-profit programs to achieve his impact goals.

Reporting directly to Daniel, you will be responsible for all of his philanthropic activities. You will partner closely with Daniel to further develop vision and strategy for his philanthropic giving and operating programs and be responsible for execution. You will serve as a liaison between Daniel and the CEOs of his various philanthropic initiatives – serving as a coach, mentor and resource to the teams, driving results accountability, and trouble-shooting where needed in order to ensure maximum impact and efficiency across the organizations. This will include developing methods and resources for independent program evaluation required to measure impact, and to support program adjustments and development.

Overall Responsibilities: 

Managing Daniel's philanthropic ecosystem: 

  • Develop and execute strategies to help Daniel align his philanthropic giving and activity with his values and desired impact
  • Seek out and evaluate new opportunities to help Daniel achieve his philanthropic goals
  • Manage a high volume of funding inquiries, prioritizing potential opportunities, and diplomatically representing Daniel’s values in all areas
  • Evaluate all philanthropic gifts against Daniel’s values, desired impact, priorities, and relationships as well as against reputational risk to Daniel and his entities; constantly re- evaluate philanthropic commitments against these criteria
  • Manage Daniel’s grants portfolio to ensure that recipients are using funds appropriately and efficiently and having a measurable impact; constantly re-evaluate philanthropic commitments and gifts accordingly
  • Stay abreast of news in the Foundations’ core giving areas, philanthropic trends, social entrepreneurship, public policy and foundation best practices and relay knowledge to Founder and team
  • Lead on new program exploration and development, as needed, to provide creative solutions for Daniel’s philanthropic objectives

Drive impact and accountability across Daniel's philanthropic organizations

  • Partner with operating foundation teams to develop strategies and annual budgets and KPIs to ensure goal achievement and efficient use of resources; drive accountability across organizations
  • Supervise and manage performance of senior leaders across the operating foundations
  • Ensure all teams are aligned on organizational goals and values and that the teams are collaborating to achieve overall philanthropic objectives
  • Foster an entrepreneurial culture that reflects our organizational values across Daniel’s philanthropic organizations
  • Monitor progress of each philanthropic initiative against agreed upon objectives and recommend changes to Daniel’s investment of time and resources where needed
  • Regularly report to Daniel on progress of each philanthropic initiative; make recommendations for allocation of his time and resources

Create operationally efficiency and efficacy across Daniel's philanthropic operations

  • Ensure an efficient deployment of resources across our operating foundations
  • Partner with operating foundation teams to ensure collaboration and / or resource sharing where possible
  • Organize and manage regular foundation board meetings pursuant to organizational bylaws
  • Oversee and authorize all organizational contracts, hiring, payments, and financial and risk management processes and procedures
  • Assess organizational capacity to implement strategies and identify gaps in systems and staffing
  • Partner with the Controller and Finance team to manage organizational spending, monitor budget compliance, and mitigate financial risks including reviewing and approving annual budgets, authorizing invoice payment, and reviewing and approving tax returns
  • Ensure that all HR department functions, including policies and procedures, hiring practices, termination and disciplinary practices, compensation and benefits administration, etc. are performed and implemented in accordance with federal, state and local compliance and in accordance with the foundation’s values
  • Plan, direct, implement and evaluate the foundations’ day-to-day operations and ensure that all activities are carried out in accordance with applicable laws and regulations governing private foundations
  • Stay abreast of developments in legal and tax codes as they relate to philanthropic giving and vehicles; make recommendations for changes to philanthropic structures to increase efficiency as needed

Serve as a philanthropic partner and resource to the Lubetzky Family

  • Partner with Daniel and his wife to re-evaluate their philanthropic goals on an ongoing basis and help them achieve those goals through their philanthropic giving and programs
  • Partner with Daniel and his family office investment team to plan for Daniel’s long term philanthropic giving
  • Provide age-appropriate tools and resources to teach Daniel’s children about philanthropy
  • Partner with members of the Lubetzky family on developing new programs to achieve their philanthropic goals, as needed

Ideal Candidate Skills: 

  • 10+ years’ experience leading an organization in the private sector or at a highly entrepreneurial non-profit
