Director of Development

The BrazilFoundation is seeking a highly skilled, dynamic, mission-driven, motivated, and philanthropy-oriented Director of Development. The Director of Development will be responsible for the planning, implementation, and execution of a development strategy to attract individual, corporate and private foundation donations as well as deferred gifts.

Position Summary: The Director of Development reports directly to the President & CEO and works collaboratively with the Foundation Vice President, Senior Donor Relations Manager and bi-national staff and board to advance the Foundation’s mission and resources through coordinated development and stewardship efforts. The position is based in New York.

The Development Director will: 1) Develop and execute BrazilFoundation’s annual fundraising plan 2) Secure financial support from individuals, foundations and corporations 3) Execute a strategy for a large, sustained base of individual donors 4) Develop and maintain ongoing relationships with major donors 5) Develop and track proposals and reports for all foundation and corporate fundraising 6) Manage implementation of BlackBaud Raiser’s Edge by all relevant staff coordinating with staff responsible for data entry and gift processing 7) Oversee planning and management of events, supervising Events Manager/Development Associate.

Required Qualifications 1) Five to seven years minimum professional leadership experience in the field of fundraising. Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) designation preferred 2) High level of proficiency in major gifts, estate planning, planned giving vehicles, and project fundraising 3) Ability to identify opportunities, relationships, and partnerships for new/increased revenue generation 4) Proficiency in both written and verbal proposals and presentations 5) Ability to interact effectively with Board of Directors, Advisory Board, Young Professionals Board, donors, and community influencers 6) Demonstrated strategic thinking and capacity to see both the big picture and the detailed steps needed to achieve organizational goals 7) Undergraduate degree in related field; master’s degree highly desirable 8) Fluent in English and Brazilian Portuguese 9) Legal authorization to work in the United States 10) Familiarity with Raiser’s Edge and Constant Contact 11) Experience in leading organization of special events 12) Excellent organizational skills 13) Self-starter, able to work with little supervision.
