THE OPPORTUNITY
Reporting to the senior director of annual giving, the
director of engagement, in collaboration with the advancement
management team, will be responsible for progressing Colby’s
efforts to best serve the College’s diverse community and increase
alumni and family involvement. This work includes creating a
framework for segmented engagement (including segments based on
identity, affinity, and industry), leveraging current volunteer
structures and creating new ways to give back to the College,
fostering a collaborative planning and implementation model across
annual giving, events, and communications, and strengthening ties
with departments across campus. The director will work closely with
all areas within the Division of College Advancement to deliver a
continuous value proposition for the Colby community to support and
enhance the College’s mission.
The director of engagement is a new position that will
play a key leadership role in developing a comprehensive strategy
to engage alumni, families, and friends through communications,
events, volunteer opportunities, and philanthropy. This position
will expand the program beyond traditional activities and modes of
engagement to ensure the Colby community is defined by inclusivity,
driven to make a difference for current and future students, and
inspired to keep connected to each other and the College.
During this transitional phase, the director will
gather cumulative engagement data to help set a holistic engagement
metric and drive quality engagement, better volunteer experiences,
and new giving models that help build the donor pipeline. In
addition, this individual will manage Colby’s Alumni Council, drive
content strategy for events, and build a robust volunteer network.
This position will play a critical role in aligning the Division of
College Advancement to the new strategy and working with the entire
division to drive consistent, innovative improvements in
efficiency, effectiveness, and collaboration with the goal of
creating enhanced alumni and family experiences, supporting Colby’s
fundraising goals, and creating elevated donor and prospect
cultivation opportunities.
