Position Information

This is a full-time management (MPP) position. MPP employees serve at the pleasure of the campus President. MPPs do not serve a probationary period and never receive permanent status.

This position is a "designated position" in the California State University's Conflict of Interest Code. The successful candidate accepting this position is required to file Conflict of Interest forms subject to the regulations of the Fair Political Practices Commission.

Special Working Conditions: MPP hours may vary depending upon schedule of the calling center and other events and programming by the division and university. As an external facing division, expect to attend evening and weekend events as necessary.

CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.

The person holding this position is considered a `mandated reporter' under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment.

Major Duties

Under the general direction of the Executive Director of Development, the Director of Annual and Leadership Giving directs and executes the annual giving program, and also administers, directs, and monitors the work performed by the University's Digital Engagement Center. The Director will contribute to the development of a major gift pipeline by increasing engagement and probability that CSUDH becomes a philanthropic priority for alumni, parents, and friends, and by creating and directing a leadership giving program. Additionally, and in consultation with the Executive Director of Development, the Director will launch and oversee initiatives focused on giving through various affinities, using a variety of creative and donor-centric solicitation methods, such as direct mail, online giving, texting, peer-to-peer fundraising, social media, and others. The Director will also engage with stakeholders within the division, campus wide, and externally through peer networks. This position supports the broad efforts of the University to increase and develop philanthropic opportunities.

Qualifications

Required Education: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or a four-year university.

Required Experience: 3-4 years of professional experience working in annual giving.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

- Knowledge of annual giving strategies, tactics, and implementation criteria, including working in a dynamic, fast-paced environment
-Independent strategic thinking and critical analytical skills for annual giving related operations that include specific tactics and implementation skills
- Expert in office systems and equipment; and windows applications including proficiency in using Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, the Internet and Outlook
- Able to perform standard business math; track financial data and make projections; draft and compose correspondence and standard reports; plan, organize, coordinate, and prioritize multiple tasks; use independent judgment; learn, identify and independently interpret and apply a variety of complex policies and procedures; and effectively handle a broad range of interpersonal contacts, including those at a higher level and those sensitive in nature
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Strong interpersonal skills and a team player

Preferred Qualifications:

5-7 years demonstrated success in annual fundraising activities is preferred. Supervisor in an annual fund office preferred in a higher education setting. Experience with databases, preferably Raiser's Edge, and phonathon software systems, preferably RNL Campus Call is desired. Experience working in higher education environment with at least 3-5 years of management or supervisory experience is desired (student assistant management is ok). Experience working with diverse audiences and groups. Previous supervision, leadership and management experience in a phonathon environment of up to 8-10 callers per shift.

Certification: Valid Drivers License

Responsibilities

40% - Leads the CSUDH Annual Giving Program to Expand the Donor Base

Manages all annual and leadership giving programs and communications. Responsible for developing a strategic annual giving plan of action and appropriate timelines, as well as for setting the overall strategy, goals, and benchmarks to renew and/or upgrade existing donors and acquire new ones according to set goals. Determines appropriate annual giving segmentations and monitors and reports on campaign outcomes. Researches, analyzes, evaluates, and modifies programming and solicitation schedules. Writes, designs, and conducts mass solicitation outreach with strategic messaging via a variety of solicitation methods. Oversees components of the Annual Giving Program, including but not limited to, alumni reunion giving, crowdfunding, senior class gift campaign, faculty/staff giving, emerity giving, parent giving, and Day of Giving programs with the goal of increasing CSUDH donor participation.

40% - Leads the University's Digital Engagement Center

Reinvisions the operations of the University's Digital Engagement Center (formally the Call Center) and oversees its work in support of CSUDH's philanthropic goals to help build a culture of philanthropy through a multi-channel digital philanthropy program. The Center will establish an open and engaging line of communication between CSUDH and its supporters and potential supporters. The Director provides effective recruitment, management, leadership, and mentoring to a team of Student Engagement Ambassadors who are vital to the success of fundraising at CSUDH and who contribute to maintaining strong relationships with alumni, parents, and donors. Lead, coach, and mentor student ambassadors and student supervisors in a team-oriented environment to foster positive feelings among its external constituents and achieve fundraising goals.

10% - Develops a Pipeline for Major and Planned Gift Prospects

By leading an effective and engaged student team, generates leads to feed the major and planned gift pipelines by identifying, cultivating, and retaining promising donors. In consultation with the Executive Director of Development, devises, implements, and oversees a leadership annual giving program that will serve as a strong and impactful base of support and be key to a sustainable, long-term growth in fundraising. Director will personally qualify, engage, solicit and steward individual donors and potential donors.

5% - Exhibits Leadership and Builds Partnerships

Stays abreast of trends in annual giving and entrepreneurial fundraising. Develops external relationships for programmatic growth and identifies internal and external partnerships for annual campaigns. Actively participates in divisional and cross-divisional meetings to foster the growth of best practices in the supporting areas of gift processing, data integrity and management, and donor relations as related to annual giving. Maintain an active and engaged role in CSUDH Development and around the University.

5% - Other duties as assigned.
