Philanthropy + Communications Specialist  

The Collaborative for Gender + Reproductive Equity (CGRE) is an active, learning community of donors and foundations uniting to advance gender, reproductive, and racial equity. We focus on three core areas: building power at the state level; advancing gender equity through state courts; and uniting movement partners to respond to and proactively counter attacks by the opposition. Since our launch, we have provided over $139 million in funding to more than 200 organizations, half of which are led by women of color. CGRE is a fully virtual organization, fiscally-sponsored by Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisors (RPA).

The Role:

The Philanthropy + Communications Specialist will be deeply committed to gender, reproductive, and racial equity, and eager to learn how CGRE facilitates the power of philanthropy to fund and strengthen social movements. Primary responsibilities include funder relations, communications, and advancement.

This new role is part of a two-person Philanthropy + Communications team at CGRE and the independent, aligned 501(c)(4), Gender Equity Action Fund, and will report to the Chief Philanthropy + Communications Officer (CPCO). The Specialist will approach fundraising with creativity; a sense of urgency for this moment in the fight for gender, reproductive, and racial equity; optimism for the opportunity to engage funders new to this work; and a commitment to true collaboration. They will play a significant role in our current and prospective funder relations work, supporting the CPCO and Executive Director as a strategic thinker and effective implementer.

Primary Responsibilities:

Funder Relations

  • Support the CPCO in all stages of stewardship to advance current and prospective funder relationships, including scheduling meetings, researching and drafting briefings and tailored reports, and participating in moves management.
  • Advance the design and build-out of a robust learning program for current and prospective funders, and other partners.
  • Conceptualize events around Advisory Committee meetings, both virtual and in-person; play a key role in managing meetings and dinners in coordination with the host funder and CGRE staff.
  • In collaboration with the Program and Operations teams, identify information and stories that showcase CGRE's strategy and grantee partner successes; from these, craft communications for the Advisory Committee, leadership, donors, and prospects.
  • Identify and vet potential partnership networks and opportunities.

Communications

  • Assist CPCO in work with CGRE’s communications firm, including tracking projects, identifying and pitching opportunities, and ensuring timely follow-up.
  • Draft thoughtful, compelling grant proposals, stewardship communications, and other external-facing materials.

Advancement

  • Work with leadership to execute a strategic, forward-looking advancement strategy that taps into the relationships and calendars of the leadership team (Executive Director, CPCO, COO, and Program Directors).
  • Ensure the leadership team is prepared for funder relations, communications, and network opportunities as they arise.

Team Building

  • Work across team to contribute to a collaborative virtual environment; provide back-up as needed.
  • Serve as liaison between team members, prospective and current funders, and consultants.

Qualifications:

  • At least five years of experience working for gender, reproductive, and racial justice organizations, political campaigns, or in higher education is required.
  • Direct fundraising experience with foundations and high net-worth donors is required; experience with funder collaboratives would be a plus.
  • Adept with, or demonstrated ability to quickly learn, prospect research sources and techniques; fluency with public resources and databases for identifying and vetting high net-worth individuals.
  • Experience vetting and prioritizing development, advancement, and communications opportunities for senior leadership.
  • Experience supporting senior leadership, including advanced scheduling, calendar walk-throughs, and note-taking, all with discretion for sensitive and confidential information.
  • Demonstrated discernment and mature judgment when balancing when to consult and when to take action.
  • Basic project management skills, including events and meeting planning.
  • Strong writing skills and ability to write compelling, swift, and succinct emails, updates, and donor-facing communications; ability to produce quick background briefs to inform decision-making.
  • Able to build trust with teammates and external partners in a virtual work environment; poised and comfortable with colleagues with different work styles and levels of formality.
  • Aligned with, and experienced in, incorporating Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (JEDI) principles into daily work and partnerships; ability to understand power dynamics and how they play out in society and the workplace.

Compensation + Benefits:

  • Salary is up to $85,000, commensurate with experience.
  • CGRE, through fiscal sponsorship by RPA, offers a competitive benefits package including health, dental, and vision coverage; 401(k) with up to 9% employer contribution; four weeks of vacation; and unlimited sick time.
  • The Specialist will work remotely and come equipped with virtual office tools, including computer, phone, and other technology needs.
