The Position

The East Bay Regional Park District is a system of beautiful parklands and trails in Alameda and Contra Costa counties to the east of San Francisco. Established in 1934, the Park District is the oldest and largest regional park system in the United States, managing over 125,000 acres of parkland within 73 regional parks, and encompassing over 1,300 miles of trails for hiking, biking, horseback riding and nature learning.

The Park District currently has one (1) vacancy at the Park District's Administrative Headquarters at 2950 Peralta Oaks Court in Oakland, California. The hiring pools established as a result of this recruitment will be used to fill the current vacancies and any additional vacancies that may occur during the one-year life of the hiring pools.

What You'll Be Doing:
Under direction, performs professional, administrative and support tasks to facilitate and support outreach effort to groups serving local underserved communities; promotes and encourages individuals and groups to participate in the District's interpretive, recreation, and leisure services; performs record keeping and administrative support; may provide lead direction to Park District program or administrative staff; and performs other work as assigned.

Essential Functions

• Initiates and cultivates partnerships with agencies and other groups that provide support to underserved communities in Alameda and Contra Costa County;
• Serves as the Park District's Interpretive and Recreation program outreach representative;
• Conducts meetings to determine the community's programming needs and develops strategies to connect with specific communities;
• Collaborates with recreation, interpretive, and transportation program staff to organize and host community-wide events;
• Collaborates with other departments and divisions to provide services and outreach delivery;
• Prepares staff reports
• Develops marketing materials and manages webpage content
• Makes presentations on behalf of the Park District regarding programs and services to local community groups;
• Staffs community events to further outreach program goals;
• Participates in program development, planning and evaluation;
• Oversees the annual assessment and evaluation of department outreach program;
• Coordinates and oversees the work of interns and volunteers and provides direction to support staff;
• Assists in the review and development of District policies, procedures and plans related to community outreach;
• Coordinates with internal staff on the collection and dissemination of information about outreach strategies, events, and publications;
• Performs related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
Education: A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in social work, recreation, environmental education, park management, public administration, business administration, public health, or a related field; AND

Experience:One year of experience in recreation, education or interpretive program planning, social work, or delivery, with emphasis on community organizing.

Substitution:Experience beyond the minimum qualifications may be substituted for a maximum of one year of the required education. Additionally, a Bachelor's degree in an unrelated field, with completion of twelve or more semester units of Recreation or Interpretive specific course work.

License or Certificate: Possession of a valid Class C California Driver's License is a condition of initial and continued employment in this classification.

Conditions of Employment:

• All East Bay Park Regional District employees are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 as a condition of employment.
• A valid California State driver's license is a condition of initial and continued employment in this position.
• The selected candidate must pass the Park District's Level 1 background check, which consists of Department of Justice (DOJ) fingerprinting, FBI fingerprinting, professional references, and education verification. Pursuant to the Federal Immigration and Reform Act of 1986, all hired applicants will be required to provide proof of identity and appropriate work authorization documents prior to commencement of employment.

Wages, hours, and other terms of conditions of employment are covered in an Agreement between the Park District and Local 2428. The probationary period for this classification is nine (9) months.

Salary Range:The starting salary for this vacancy will be at Step A of the salary range.
