The Humane Society of Boulder Valley (HSBV) is seeking a Donor Relations Manager to lead all aspects of the major donor development cycle. The Donor Relations Manager helps raise critical funds for HSBV’s mission of serving pets and people through donor identification, cultivation, solicitation, acknowledgment and stewardship. These healthy relationships cultivated by the Donor Relations Manager support HSBV donors in achieving their philanthropic goals and charitable ambitions.

Responsibilities:
Relationship Management
  • Identifies, cultivates and solicits donors with an emphasis on gifts of $5,000 and higher.
  • Develops and maintains substantive relationships with a portfolio of 150+ existing donors and prospects through face to face meetings, mission-related gatherings, donor engagement plans, donor recognition, gift acknowledgment, and responsiveness to donor requests and inquiries.  
  • Develops individual donor strategies to renew and upgrade donor gifts. Works collaboratively across the department to support donor pipeline for upgrading donors.
  • Invites gifts in a safe, articulate and welcoming manner, demonstrating exceptional interpersonal skills. Identifies new major gifts and planned giving prospects based on analysis of gift history; works with Philanthropy team members including the Director of Philanthropy and Community Relations, the Philanthropy Manager and the CEO to qualify donors for portfolios for each role.
  • Works with the Philanthropy Manager, Donor Services Administrator and Donor Relations Associate to ensure that major gifts are appropriately acknowledged.
  • Assists the board and other staff with their solicitation (i.e., provide portfolio development support, strategic counsel and help with donor communications).
  • Manages all aspects of in-house major donor appeals. Customizes special appeals, renewal requests and acknowledgments for major donors including writing copy for major donor communications.
Donor Engagement
  • Develops, recommends and implements annual engagement plans for individual major donors.
  • Promotes donor interest, involvement and investment by developing a mission-related events for existing donors and prospects.
  • Provides shelter tours for major donors and prospects. 
  • Provides excellent donor stewardship and responds to donor inquiries and special requests in a highly responsive and attentive manner. 
  • Collaborates with volunteers (i.e., philanthropy committees, board, ad-hoc steering committees) as needed in fulfilling identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship activities.
  • Strategizes, implements and manages special projects outside of the scope of the general annual major gift program, including capital projects.
Planned Giving
  • Develops, implements and manages tools for donors to make planned gifts. Collaborates with Director of Philanthropy and Community Relations, CEO and Marketing and Community Relations Manager to communicate these tools to donors and prospects.
  • Responds to inquiries from the planned giving mailbox, website and other strategic marketing efforts.
Reporting
  • Tracks prospects and donor contacts in portfolio using organization tools and tracking methods via Salesforce. Ensures that all donor information entry, storage and special requests are recorded and accomplished.
  • Manages pertinent information in systems and software to cultivate donors and prospects, including Salesforce, Classy, MailChimp, GivingDNA and other tools.
  • Track and report progress using specific metrics.
  • Prepares reports and queries upon request for various events, board reports, donor recognition, grants and statistical reporting for philanthropy campaigns.
Qualifications:
Three years of nonprofit fundraising, customer service or sales experience required. Demonstrated experience, success and responsibility in fundraising. Shown ability to develop strong relationships and secure individual gifts and meet objectives. Must possess a Colorado Driver’s License with good, insurable driving record.

Desired Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Intermediate skills in Windows environment including Microsoft Office. Ability to conceive, plan and execute a major gifts program. Strong familiarity with Office and Google Suite products. Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills required. Excellent organizational, planning and time management skills. High level of discretion and ethical, equitable approach to fundraising. Proactive in identifying and completing tasks with a high level of accuracy. Demonstrated, sincere interest in the mission of the Humane Society of Boulder Valley. Exercises good judgment when addressing the public, employee issues and animal-related concerns.  Able to maintain confidentiality. Exemplifies HSBV’s internal values of kindness, collaboration, ingenuity, trust, optimism and humility.

Work Environment
Work environment is primarily an office setting, sitting at a desk, using a telephone and computer regularly. May require hours served on the weekend, evenings and travel. May be required to maintain availability when away from the facility as directed by the Director of Philanthropy and Community Relations. Scheduled during business hours with occasional evening/weekend hours required for fundraising functions, meetings, events or trainings. Periodically required to drive on behalf of HSBV.

A pre-employment background check and drug screen are required for all positions.

The anticipated salary range for this position is $68,484 - $76,211 per year. This salary range is the Humane Society of Boulder Valley’s estimate for this potion and actual compensation will be based on factors including but not limited to the depth and extent of relevant experience, education, and additional training/certifications for preferred skills.
