POSITION: Philanthropy Director
LOCATION: Northwest Youth Corps Headquarters, Eugene, Oregon or
Tacoma, Washington Office. Will require 25% travel to project
locations; state offices and to visit donors, travelling within ID,
OR, and WA.

Since 1984, Northwest Youth Corps (NYC), a non-profit
organization, has given tens of thousands of youth and young adults
opportunities to learn, grow, and experience success.
Through partnerships with conservation agencies, youth and young
adults gain the personal and professional skills needed to carry
out a variety of stewardship projects, from which they can earn a
stipend, high school credit, and/or an AmeriCorps educational
award. More importantly, these young people gain skills needed to
become economically and socially self-sufficient, benefit their
communities as citizen stewards, and recognize that they can make a
positive difference. NYC also operates an accredited charter
school, internship program, and the Idaho Conservation Corps
The Philanthropy Director has overall responsibility for the
design and execution of fundraising activities including major
gifts, annual fund, managing donor relationships, maintaining and
developing relationships with Foundations, providing support of the
Board and Executive Team’s fundraising activities, and all other
aligned fundraising efforts. This position ensures the successful
achievement of fundraising goals through the active cultivation and
management of a prospect portfolio of prospective donors and
current and new foundation relationships.
The Philanthropy Director is a key member of the Northwest Youth
Corps (NYC) Leadership Team and is responsible for the development
of a robust and diversified income stream that includes
contributions from individuals, foundations, and corporations. This
position is a highly visible position and will be supervised and
evaluated on overall performance and production by the Executive
Department Supervision and collaborations

• Promote continued organizational support of Diversity, Equity,
and Inclusion initiatives.
• Seek to remove barriers to participation in NYC programs for
underrepresented populations. • Reach out to engage and include
underrepresented communities and individuals in financially
supporting NYC’s mission. Risk Management Responsibilities
• Follow all risk management guidelines in office, vehicle and
field environments Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Build and implement a comprehensive fund development program
that will both engage current donors while identifying,
researching, cultivating, and soliciting new individual,
foundation, and corporation prospects.
• Develop, implement, execute, and evaluate overall fundraising
activity, cultivation, and solicitation strategies for individual
donor, foundation and corporate prospects.
• Provide overall management of NYC annual fundraising efforts
in support of prospect development and alignment with the mission
while actively managing a personal prospect portfolio of current
and potential donors for NYC.
• Engage and lead board and staff in supporting fundraising
• Prepare high quality donor correspondence including
cultivation materials, direct mail, solicitation letters, grant
proposals and reports, project budgets, and acknowledgement
• Build and maintain a Culture of Philanthropy that includes
engaging and supporting both Board and Staff
• Oversee the implementation of the organization’s overall
strategic growth of fundraising as guided by the developed plan for
optimal growth of fundraising and a Culture of Philanthropy.
• Prepare reports for major gifts, grants, and other fundraising
efforts and outcomes to Executive Director, Board of Directors, and
staff as appropriate.
• Ensure appropriate recognition and stewardship of every
Position Qualifications & Certifications
• Strong knowledge and skill base in effective fundraising
techniques and practices, including administration of annual funds,
solicitation techniques, grant administration and planned giving
• Knowledge of (and commitment to) the Association of
Fundraising Professionals code of ethical conduct, National
Committee on Planned Giving ethical practices and the Donor Bill of
• Highly developed written and interpersonal communication
skills, and strong formal presentation skills.
• Proven track record of budget management, and achieving
revenue targets as an exceptional fundraiser.
• Strong organizational and project management skills with the
ability to manage multiple assignments, meet deadlines and to
quickly shift priorities.
• Proven commitment to ensuring the highest standards of donor
relationship building and stewardship with impeccable
• Proficiency in using spreadsheet, database, and word
processing software, including experience with online databases and
other software for identifying potential donors and grants.
• Understanding of (and commitment to) the purpose, mission, and
values of NYC.
• Interest, temperament, enthusiasm, and affinity for
fundraising and working with people.
• Pass a background check and driver’s training.
• Bachelor’s degree in business, non-profit management,
marketing or related field; 3-5 years of progressive experience in
nonprofit development positions with successful practice in
Physical Demands/Work Environment

in a variety of environments, mostly from an office setting but
with occasional donor visits in remote work locations.

Terms of Employment This is a full time, exempt position.
Typical hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
Workload varies seasonally and will occasionally require long days,
travel, and/or evening and weekend responsibilities.
