NC State invites applications and nominations for the position of Assistant Dean for Advancement in the College of Natural Resources. NC State seeks an accomplished, innovative and collaborative advancement professional. This position is the college’s chief fundraising and engagement leader and will be responsible for managing the college advancement program and growing fundraising results in collaboration with university partners and in alignment with industry best practices. Reporting to the Dean, the Assistant Dean provides vision and leadership for the College Advancement Office and serves as President of the Natural Resources Foundation.    As a member of the Dean’s leadership executive team, they will have the unique opportunity to develop and implement goals for the College of Natural Resources Advancement Office that clearly and effectively support the strategic priorities of the College with an emphasis on growing fundraising results. The Assistant Dean will work closely with University Advancement in the areas of program growth, organizational alignment, and program effectiveness; closely collaborating in the areas of recruitment and retention, performance management and assessment, professional development, and performance standards.   Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
  • Set annual fundraising goals in partnership with the Dean and manage the strategic fundraising process for the College;
  • Manage a focused portfolio of major gift and principal gift level prospects meeting annual goals for activity and results;
  • Serve as the senior adviser to the Dean and Directors on philanthropy, advocacy, and alumni and external relations;
  • Support the Natural Resources Foundation by maintaining board relationships, overseeing the foundation budget, arranging annual meetings, retreats, and other activities;
  • Build mutually beneficial relationships with alumni, donors, industry, government, and other constituents of the College;
  • Collaborate and consult with the University Advancement Office and other unit fundraising leaders, key volunteers, and senior development staff to increase overall private support for the College;
  • Market and build the brand of the College through a broad range of communications that showcase the college’s excellent faculty, staff, students and research;
  • Regularly travel with the Dean to meet with alumni, friends, corporations and foundations to secure philanthropic resources for the college;
  • Build working relationships with academic department heads, faculty, and administrators throughout the college to thoroughly understand their programs and priorities and to both assist in managing their respective advancement activities and represent their needs.
  • Lead and manage a team of advancement professionals, set policy, procedures, and best practices; provide inspirational leadership, mentorship and coaching to achieve annual goals while adhering to university performance standards;
  • Model and reinforce a sophisticated, non-territorial approach to donor-centric philanthropy that encourages teamwork, flexibility and responsiveness.
