PRIMARY FUNCTION:
The Associate Director of Development serves as the deputy to the Director of Development and, in that capacity, plays a key role in driving philanthropic revenue, strengthening the Connecticut region's fundraising program, and achieving the region's annual fundraising goals. The Associate Director of Development will manage a portfolio of donors and prospective donors and will develop targeted management plans and solicitation strategies. They will be responsible for identifying new potential donors while cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding existing donors. The Associate Director of Development will design/prepare newsletters and donor communications. The Associate Director of Development will take on additional responsibilities as directed by and in conjunction with the Director of Development.
ResponsibilitiesPrimary:
- Assist the Director of Development in setting fundraising priorities and establishing financial goals.
- In consultation with the Director of Development, identify, cultivate, build, and solidify relationships with new and established contributors. Analyze historic patterns of giving and assist in developing strategies to encourage new gifts and increase contributions.
- Manage a portfolio of new and existing donors, as well as prospective donors. Directly solicit and close gifts from these individuals.
- Work with the Regional Director and Development Director to stimulate effective leadership participation in fundraising. May provide staff support to the Glass Leadership Institute. Solicit and cultivate relationships with participants, and create opportunities for their on-going engagement.
- Cultivate and maintain community relationships and community outreach. Identify potential speakers and may establish a speaker’s bureau.
- As necessary, plan, organize and execute fundraising events such as corporate and professional dinners, parlor meetings and special events. Organize event committee meetings; mentor event chairs and co-chairs. Coordinate event program, honorees and attendees.
Secondary:
- Participate in special assignments or projects to assist the Regional Director, Director of Development, or a representatives at the National level.
- Participate in development-related functions such as design/prepare newsletters and donor communications and marketing, design/preparation of print materials, event logistics, and post-event follow up based on individual skills and office needs.
- Other responsibilities as assigned by and in conjunction with the Director of Development.
Skills:
- Proven ability to solicit and close gifts.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and good oral and written presentation skills.
- Good organizational and administrative skills including the ability to multi-task.
- Familiarity with word processing, spreadsheet, and database management software.
Work Experience:
- Five to seven years of community fundraising experience in a volunteer environment.
- Experience in direct solicitation and closing gifts.
- Event planning experience.
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent work experience.
Work Environment:
