The Smithsonian American Art Museum (SAAM)—the oldest and largest of Smithsonian art museums—seeks a creative and energetic relationship builder with a demonstrated record of success with foundation and corporate fundraising to join a diverse, collegial, and successful advancement team that is responsible for raising support from individuals, foundations, and corporations and generating revenue through special event rentals. SAAM duties include identifying, cultivating, and soliciting corporate and foundation prospects; creating compelling and persuasive proposals; managing stewardship of institutional donors; and preparing other donor communications. 

Progressive frontline fundraising experience with a track record of achieving revenue targets required. The ability to meet frequent deadlines with great attention to detail and work collaboratively is essential to success. Arts and humanities knowledge and experience at a major cultural organization desired. 

The Smithsonian American Art Museum and branch museum, the Renwick Gallery, is the nation’s first collection of American art and craft. The two museums offer an unparalleled record of the American experience as displayed in two national historic landmarks building. The collection of 48,000 artworks captures the aspirations, character, and imagination of the American people throughout three centuries.
