Director of Development
Position Summary
New Hope Housing is now a regional housing agency serving up to 350 adults daily in Fairfax County, Arlington County, Alexandria, and Falls Church. The organization provides emergency sheltering, transitional, and permanent supportive housing.
Currently, the organization is led by an Interim Executive Director. A President and CEO will be hired in the fall of 2022. The Interim Executive Director is an experienced fundraiser and fundraising consultant. The permanent President and CEO will be an experienced fundraiser.
The Director of Development will provide direct support to the President and CEO of New Hope housing, conduct an annual fund, and develop and solicit a broad range of major gift benefactors. The Director will report directly to the President and CEO. Regular contact and shared meetings with the President and CEO and with active and potential donors are expected.
The case for support for New Hope Housing is compelling. Its 45-year history, close connections with the community, and the breadth of its services are compelling to donors.
Specific Job Requirements
1. The Director of Development will provide direct counsel and support to the President and CEO on managing their portfolio of active and prospective donors.
2. The Director of Development will utilize a data driven “moves-management” system to advance potential and existing benefactors through the development pipeline.
3. Relying on the annual fund to source potential major gift benefactors and other engagement initiatives the Director will create a major gift portfolio for themselves and the President and CEO.
4. Work directly with members of the Board of Directors to engage them in fundraising and other activities to financially advance the organization.
5. Building upon a base of generous donors the Director of Development will initiative an annual fund giving campaign to raise undesignated funds and identify potential major gift benefactors.

7. The Development Director will strategically engage current and solicit prospective major donors, work to build relationships, and develop a planned giving timeline.
8. The Director of Development will work collaboratively with the Director of Communications and External Affairs.

Requirements
The Development Director will have:
1. An interest in supporting the work of assisting those who are experiencing homelessness.
2. 5-10 years’ experience as an annual fund or major gift fundraising professional.
3. 3-5 years’ experience supporting a President and CEO or a person in a similar role.
4. An active drivers license and access to an automobile.
5. An outgoing collegial disposition and willingness to work with others.
