The Associate, Portfolio will be an instrumental part of our Impact team supporting our community wealth building initiatives and coordinating the day to day runnings with the rest of the Portfolio team. The Associate, Portfolio role will work closely with both the Portfolio Initiatives team (70%) as well as the Portfolio Advancement team (30%). The Portfolio Initiatives team addresses community-defined needs that often involve multiple stakeholders by testing solutions that are community-centered and align an ecosystem of stakeholders towards an equitable future. This role will support the Manager and Director of Portfolio Initiatives to conduct research, collaborate and manage a portfolio of pilots and experiments that are building community wealth. Additionally, they will support the building & deployment of systems to assess capacities, needs, fit, and other considerations for Community Wealth Building (CWB) organizations and other stakeholders. The Portfolio Associate will also support the Portfolio team with strategic grantmaking for both Initiatives and Advancement projects  that have the potential to change the field's best practices. This is a supportive role for the Portfolio Advancement team as main coordinator for day to day logistics. 


Position Responsibilities


Portfolio Initiatives (60%)

Pilot Co-Creation, Launch and Management


    Assists in the process of identifying and screening partners for community wealth building pilot projects including  leading research, communication and logistics for interviews  Works in collaboration with the Manager and Director to source economic wealth building ideas from the entire CF team as well as external partners.


  • Works with Manager to ensure the vetting, selecting, onboarding, and continued support of selected partners are smooth and an overall positive experience. 


    Leads logistics for internal, external, and domestic travel events for Initiatives and pilot projects.  Opportunity to develop  and champion one’s own community wealth building pilot ideas  (e.g. Green Economy, Land Rights) through research, exploration, and lived experience. 


Portfolio Advancement (30%)

Strategic Grants Administration

    Coordinates distribution of strategic economic justice grants to grant recipients in a timely manner following routine process Works with the CF Finance team to assure all Grant documents are completed before deployment  Add all relevant grant data to grant tracker for future reporting in systems including Salesforce & Airtable  Maintain communication with grant recipients throughout the deployment process 


Advancement Programs 

    Supports the logistical aspects of the Common Future Accelerator, including: supporting the manager with recruitment, maintaining communication and coordinating the timeline and schedule throughout the selection process.  Coordinates travel and logistics for participants and Common Future staff in case of in person programming Supports in the execution and delivery of the program Supports in developing meaningful and beneficial relationships across the Common Future network. 


Portfolio Team (10%)

Impact Management + Communications

    Supports the effective use of all internal systems that track progress and demonstrates the impact of the innovations we are testing, including all relevant grant data to grant tracker. This may include utilizing Salesforce, Airtable, or other data management tools. In collaboration with the Initiatives Manager, creates engaging internal presentations to keep the entire CF team updated on progress, learnings, and challenges as part of our inclusive learning process. Works in partnership with the CF Communications team to support the external communications of our pilots and programs, including the creation of social media kits and thought pieces that highlight the initiatives and help influence the solutions we are working to demonstrate.

Associate, Portfolio specific:


    Experience with inclusive entrepreneurship, alternative economic models, philanthropy, activism, and/or impact investing helpful but not required Ability to work independently, capable of building strong yet flexible internal systems & being detail oriented with communications and follow-through (we capture a lot of information and are managing a lot of relationships).  Effective communication skills both written and verbal (presentations, emails, public speaking, etc.) Familiarity with data management systems and willingness to learn new software and applications as needed. Results oriented and practices essentialism in prioritizing what’s most impactful. Continuous learning mindset with a passion for addressing economic injustices, closing the racial wealth gap, and systems change. Committed to antiracism and dismantling white supremacy in work practices; practice in building power for and sharing power with community leaders; conviction that those closest to the problems know best. As in person gatherings resume, ability for limited travel is ideal, but not required. Experience using productivity tools like Google Drive, Asana, Airtable & Slack  Experience in using data management tools like Salesforce, or Google Sheets


Compensation and Benefits

This is a full-time, exempt position.  The salary for this role is $55,000-$64,000 and commensurate with experience.
