Position Summary

Reporting to the Director of Major Gifts, the Development Associate will work collaboratively with a growing team of frontline fundraisers to cultivate, solicit and steward gifts from existing and potential donors. This role is key to the smooth functioning of the team and will have primary responsibility for material development and distribution, scheduling, and other administrative duties.  A successful candidate will have the opportunity to manage special projects in collaboration with departmental leadership. Specific duties include:  

Key Responsibilities

Communication:

  • Function as the “front door” for major gifts donors and prospects, responding to email and phone inquiries and resolving or routing appropriately;
  • Draft donor Thank You letters and other communication; track acknowledgement process;

Data Management:

  • Collaborate with frontline fundraisers to collect data on donors and new prospects;
  • Liaise with Operations colleagues to maintain and manage donor and prospect data;
  • Enter call reports into system as appropriate;
  • Pull and analyze ad hoc reports from Raisers Edge data base as requested;

Proposal Generation:

  • Draft briefings, memos, letters, proposals and reports as directed for the department;
  • Collaborate with frontline fundraisers to arrange all aspects of donor visits – on- and off-campus – including transportation, catering, etc.;
  • Support team workflow and donor and prospect moves management by monitoring and driving the major gifts team’s solicitation and stewardship calendars;

Special Projects:

  • Collaborate with colleagues across the department on the creation of Power Point presentations, stewardship projects, volunteer opportunities, and/or special events as appropriate.

Other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Qualified candidates will have earned a bachelor’s degree and have 1-2 years of work experience in an office setting, preferably in development, alumni relations, health care, special events, public relations, marketing and/or research.  Intermediate/advanced proficiency in the MS Office suite (Word, Excel, Power Point) required; familiarity with Raiser’s Edge database or a comparable database preferred.

  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Superior writing skills.
  • Ability to effectively communicate and establish credibility with diverse audiences, including faculty, scientists, students, and alumni.
  • Ability to prioritize and execute multiple tasks, meet deadlines and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to attend evening and weekend events as needed.
  • Strong passion for and commitment to the institution’s mission; interest in growing responsibilities.
