Responsibilities
The Associate Director of Development will strategically execute a personal solicitation program resulting in philanthropic support by maximizing the identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of prospects for gifts at the $100,000 and up level with a focus on individual giving. This individual will secure, on an annual basis, private support at the annual and major gift level and will be responsible for identification of potential individual prospects. Working with the Senior Director of Development, Executive Director and Ringling department heads and curators, the Associate Director will work to define and finalize institutional capital, endowment and programmatic priorities, formulate campaign plans, strategies, timelines and collateral materials in collaboration with the FSU Foundation. The Associate Director will be expected to uphold and exemplify the operating practices and mission of the Foundation and The Ringling.
Strategic Fundraising Development
Works with the Senior Director of Development, Development Team, and the Executive Director of The Ringling to develop and execute strategic fundraising initiatives on behalf of the Museum, the University and the Foundation. Develops, coordinates and executes an annual major gift plan of the Ringling, implementing fundraising activities designed to meet a goal of $1,000,000 or more. Establishes new relationships resulting in philanthropic revenue, maintains existing relationships to generate new philanthropic revenue, and provides prospect/donor-related assessments and feedback for the museum and the university. Identifies, qualifies and sustains a donor prospect portfolio pipeline of individual prospects who have a giving capacity of $100,000 or more. Secures gifts and pledges from members, donors and prospects of The Ringling Museum. Exhibits and promotes a comprehensive understanding of the philanthropic needs and priorities of The Ringling effectively matching the specific interests of prospective donors to those needs.
Central Development Coordination
Coordinates with central FSU Foundation development staff and other cross-functional team members to identify leads and prospects to develop team solicitation plans and opportunities and posts donor visit contact reports working in the Foundation’s CRM database.
Administrative/Campaign Events
Assists in the planning and facilitation of meetings, communications, information exchanges and projects in coordination with the Senior Director of Development and Senior Staff of The Ringling. Plans for and initiates direct activities with prospects that are designed to enhance the affiliation between the prospect, The Ringling, and the University. Prepares and presents proposals and negotiates gift agreements. Prepares correspondence with prospects and documents communications, solicitation activity and gift information in compliance with Foundation reporting guidelines. Creates, inspires and maintains donor loyalty, interest and enthusiasm through effective stewardship communication and activities designed to express recognition, appreciation and the impact of their gift(s). Implementation of such stewardship plan may include but should not be limited to letters, communication of unit or university initiatives, invitations to appropriate activities, meetings, events, or the facilitation of Ringling campus visits. Protects confidential information. Performs other related duties as required and assigned.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree and four years of experience; or a high school diploma/equivalent and experience equal to eight years. (Note: post-high school education can substitute for experience at the equivalent rate.)
Demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion.
Experience at compiling a wide range of elements into a comprehensive plan.
Proficiency in the Microsoft Office products suite (Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Word), or equivalent software.
A self-starter, comfortable working independently.
Ability to maintain consistent and positive communication.
Must be a creative thinker and a recognition of the impact of meaningful stewardship.
Excellent communication skills to include effective and persuasive writing, public speaking and interpersonal skills.
Ability to prioritize, organize and perform multiple work assignments simultaneously and accurately in a detail-oriented environment.
Ability to facilitate strong communications with colleagues, donors, prospective donors and alumni, including letters, surveys and telephone solicitation programs.
Ability and willingness to travel and work flexible hours including evenings and weekends.
Valid FL Driver's License or the ability to obtain.

Preferred
Advanced degree preferred.
Experience in gift development in a not-for-profit, arts, museum, university, or related setting.
General knowledge of the Sarasota philanthropic community.
