The News Literacy Project (NLP), a national, nonpartisan education nonprofit, is seeking a Manager of Institutional Giving to join our development team. Founded in 2008, NLP is the leading provider of news literacy education for middle and high school students, primarily through its signature e-learning platform, Checkology®.

Where you fit in

NLP is poised to take on a greater national presence to meet the intense interest in its programs from school districts across the country while it works to build a national movement to advance the practice of news literacy in all sectors of American society. To reach our objectives, NLP is rapidly expanding its capacity. This position will help support and improve NLP’s institutional giving program. This is a great opportunity for you to play a significant role in supporting the organization’s ambitious goal of raising $38 million over the next four years.

This position reports to the Senior Director of Institutional Giving.

About you

In addition to the qualifications noted above, the successful candidate will have all or most of the following:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent certification; additional project management certification a plus.
  • A minimum of five years of work experience in project or program management with additional experience in nonprofit fundraising or in sales/marketing. Working in a start-up company or a growing nonprofit a plus.
  • Significant experience and success with process improvements and building internal systems.
  • Proven experience in writing in different styles and voices across multiple platforms and for diverse audiences.
  • Strong verbal communication skills and experience with public speaking.
  • Proven ability to develop positive and collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications especially Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint, and CRMs, EveryAction preferred.
  • Understanding of, and ability to talk about, the dangers that mis- and disinformation pose to our democracy.
  • Ability to manage ambiguity in a growing organization, while helping the organization build and maintain structures for consistency.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Highly organized multi-tasker.
  • Fluent in written and spoken English.
  • Commitment to building a respectful, welcoming and inclusive environment.

 

Compensation and benefits

This position is virtual; ideally, the successful candidate will live within an hour of a major airport or metropolitan area. We have an office in Washington, D.C. and for candidates local to the area you have the option to work from the office.
