Lehigh's Center for Career & Professional Development seeks an Assistant Director to deliver innovative services and career education to students. The Career Education team utilizes a blended learning model to deliver career education through career coaching, learning labs, workshops, classroom presentations, online tools and high-impact experiential learning opportunities to enhance student development.

The Assistant Director educates students on the career development process and strategically engages partners across campus to connect students with employer partners and alumni. As department liaison to the College of Arts and Sciences, this position designs and delivers programs and resources for approximately 1,800 Arts and Sciences students. The Assistant Director provides career education to students and alumni; delivers workshops and classroom presentations; designs and implements communications for faculty/staff, employers, students, and graduates; and plans and coordinates several career events annually. The individual in this position must be committed to creating and supporting a welcoming, open, and inclusive environment for all students and constituents.

1. Develop and support strategies for engagement
*Design and execute a student engagement strategy to connect 1,800 College of Arts & Sciences (CAS) students with Lehigh's Center for Career and Professional Development (CCPD) early and often
*Provide career coaching using a thorough knowledge of career development theory while applying a broad range of coaching skills; coach students on a wide range of career topics including: self-exploration, job search planning and strategies, resume and cover letter writing, personal branding, networking, interviewing, salary negotiation and career management
*Work with the Director and Senior Director to plan and execute strategic plans for each fiscal year, emphasizing college-wide collaboration including Associate Deans, Department Chairs, faculty and staff
*Serve as primary liaison with CAS for coordinating events, disseminating information, conducting presentations and other related services to meet the needs of the students and the college
*Develop and implement programs for assisting undecided students in making career and academic decisions
*Administer and interpret assessment tools such as the StrengthsQuest, MBTI and Strong Interest Inventory
*Develop innovative approaches to deliver information on career issues
*Teach a focused, multi-faceted and proactive job search strategy
*Develop and update online tools designed to support students' career development
*Promote online interviewing tools and review recordings created by students; provide interview feedback and suggestions
*Create and distribute a bi-monthly newsletter to engage CAS students

2. Manage Career Education Programming
*Create, plan and deliver career events and specialized programming designed to meet the career and professional development needs of students
*Coordinate career events, special college events, career fairs and targeted programming; conduct ongoing assessment and provide feedback as to the effectiveness of such events
*Work with CAS students to create outreach strategies for students dealing with a diverse employer base
*Collaborate with Career Education colleagues in the organization and execution of events that review career search skills
*Disseminate resources specifically targeted to CAS students and employers
*Assist students in leveraging the use of Handshake, LinkedIn and Lehigh Connects (Lehigh's mentorship platform)
*Manage Lehigh's Alumni Mentoring program including marketing, communication and data collection
*Collaborate with the Associate Director of Assessment & Outcomes to collect First Destination outcome data from students
*Manage the social media efforts for the CCPD office including Instagram and Facebook accounts; manage student staff assigned to postings to ensure content is career-relevant and timely
*Collaborate with the CCPD team to execute the office's signature events, the Fall and Spring Career Expos, which connects students to industry representatives from 100+ companies
*Collaborate with the CCPD to plan and deliver skill-building workshops and career education programs

3. Program promotion in campus communities
*Serve as a connector, facilitator and convener of students, employers, alumni, faculty and staff
*Serve as the CCPD liaison to targeted campus groups and communities
*Collaborate with Dean of Students colleagues and key campus partners to provide targeted programming for students (i.e. Athletics, Office of Student Leadership Development, Greek Affairs, Office of Residence Life)
*Develop programs that connect alumni and students to promote student success
*Serve on various cross-functional teams to promote the vision and direction of CCPD
*Represent Lehigh and CCPD in local and national professional associations and conferences in order to stay current with higher education trends, revise programs to reflect trends and increase the center's visibility among professionals in the field

4. Employer relations and strategic outreach
*Contribute to the growth of online job postings through collaboration with employers, alumni, faculty, staff and student organizations
*Interact with alumni to facilitate the successful growth of internships and externships
*Work collaboratively and meet frequently with key college faculty, staff, alumni and students to assess and market programs and to provide data on recruiting services and student employment
*Collaborate with CAS partners, Development & Alumni Relations team and campus partners to create a comprehensive vision that will meet Lehigh's goals and needs
*Collaborate with employers on experiential learning programs and events
*Promote the department's programs and services to alumni with emphasis on job development, internship and development; represent the University at community and industry meetings and events
*Continuously market programs and events to employers to encourage participation; leverage employer and alumni relationships to support the programs and activities coordinated by CCPD

Special Considerations

The duties of the position do not allow for a remote work option; the employee in this position will be required to work on campus where they can be fully accessible to the Lehigh community

Qualifications

Master's Degree in Counseling, Student Personnel, Higher Education or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience

Three to five years related work experience

Excellent communication, interpersonal skills and a high level of customer service required

Ability to build, foster and maintain positive professional relationships

Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, time management and sound judgment

Adept use of digital communication preferred

Proven ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and a high degree of initiative for bringing tasks to completion

Excellent computer skills with experience using word processing, spreadsheet, database and presentation software

Successful completion of standard background checks including but not limited to: social security verification, education verification, national criminal background checks, motor vehicle checks, PATCH, FBI fingerprinting, Child Abuse Clearance and credit history based upon the requirements of the position

All Lehigh faculty and staff are required to be fully vaccinated and receive a booster shot six months after their second vaccine; unless they receive an approved medical or religious exemption from the requirement.
