Women Corporate Directors (WCD) is the world’s largest membership organization and community of women corporate board directors. For more than 20 years, WCD’s mission has been to increase representation of women on public and large private company boards, inspire and educate its members, and advance visionary corporate governance.

The organization is planning its next phase of major growth and is seeking an experienced Director of Development to join the team.

The Director of Development will manage and execute the initiatives and activities required to support the creation of a diversified fundraising strategy that leads to building successful funder relationships with corporations, foundations, and individuals to achieve annual revenue goals in support of WCD’s mission.

This key Director position will report to the Development Executive and will work closely with the CEO and other departments and will  serve as a front-line fundraiser, manage and execute Development activities, including research to create funder prospect pipelines, identification of prospect solicitation strategies, solicitation materials, proposals, and agreements, and ensure funder information is incorporated into the contact management database. The Director will also manage day-to-day corporate sponsor and other funder interactions and communications and represent sponsors internally to ensure all sponsor/funder benefits are delivered on time and with excellence.

Key Responsibilities:

Support the creation of a diversified revenue strategy to achieve annual revenue growth goals

  • Serve as a front-line fundraiser and relationship-builder with corporations, foundations, and individuals to achieve WCD’s fundraising goals.
  • Identify and assist with the solicitation of corporations and foundations whose brands, missions and DEI efforts align with WCD’s mission
  • Conduct prospect research and assist with prioritizing various targeted funder audiences and develop short-term and long-term outreach strategies
  • Research and identify trending and innovative strategies that should be considered in the creation of compelling funder solicitation materials
  • Write compelling letters of introduction/inquiry, grant applications, proposals, and agreements
  • Collaborate with the Development Executive to schedule Development Committee calls and create meeting materials
  • Manage the scheduling of individual WCD member follow up calls to assist with prospect solicitation
  • Collaborate with the Development Executive, CEO, and other departments to develop a year-round individual giving program
  • Collaborate with the Development Executive, Senior Director of Operations, and Senior Director of Marketing to create strategies to expand our Giving Tuesday campaign and create other potential days of giving.

Support the relationship building and stewardship of funders

  • In concert with the Development Executive, develop and execute strategies for cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of current and new donors
  • Manage the funder and prospect meeting coordination including: scheduling, agendas, minutes, etc.   
  • Work with WCD Programming and Marketing to identify potential funder benefits and associated recognition, branding and visibility opportunities

With the Development Executive, oversee the planning and execution of WCD’s signature event, the Visionary Awards Celebration for in-person and/or virtual delivery

  • Identify and solicit prospects to achieve the event fundraising goal
  • Engage the Development Committee to support funder solicitation
  • Work with the Visionary Awards Celebration Chair on the event strategy
  • Support solicitation of event keynote speakers through the writing of letters of invitation
  • Collaborate with Marketing to develop Visionary Awards sponsorship opportunity collateral
  • Interface with Visionary Awards awardees to assist with CEO and Senior Executive involvement as well as to solicit for funding
  • Work closely with the WCD event planning staff on food, beverage, audio-visual, signage, programs, and other event details for an in-person event and/or recording and digital production for a virtual event

Support of Development Operations

  • Work with WCD’s accounting firm to ensure contract payment schedules are executed.
  • Develop and manage the acknowledgment process for donations
  • With the Development Executive, interface with WCD legal department for review and approval of sponsor proposals and agreements
  • Create, organize, and maintain all fundraising and sales collateral in Dropbox
  • Maintain funder archives including contracts, proposals, and key correspondence; and ensure funder information is included in CRM

Skills/Experience/Knowledge required:

  • Minimum of 5 years of Development experience as a front-line fundraiser with a track-record of 6-figure and 7-figure fundraising
  • Skilled at prospect research, developing prospect pipelines and solicitation strategies, and the associated organizational and administrative skills to ensure success
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills
  • Grant, proposal, and solicitation writing skills are required
  • Must have CRM data entry and report generation experience
  • Excellent organization and problem-solving skills
  • Experience with event planning is helpful
  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Able to effectively manage working remotely
  • Open to light travel to WCD events and WCD funder/sponsor meetings as needed
