Data Analyst, Department of Development & Alumni
Engagement The New School
University Development and Alumni Engagement Office (DAE) seeks a
results-oriented individual to work as part of the Advancement
Services team to maximize the use of information systems, reporting
tools, and data products in support of the mission of the
department and the university as a whole.
The ideal candidate will have strong
technical skills, the ability to think strategically and
communicate the value of their analysis effectively, and a
willingness to continually learn new systems and adopt database
efficiencies. The successful candidate will
provide proactive and collaborative operational support to the
department using technical expertise, automated tools, and
web-based applications. This support will include developing
comprehensive executive analytical reports, training team members
on various applications, and providing support and integration
services between systems.
The Data Analyst will report to the
AVP for Advancement Operations & Data Services

RESPONSIBILITIES
- Maintain and build upon an established report library based on department and university needs as well as trends in higher education fundraising operations
- Work closely with campaign and prospect strategy leadership, including providing data and analytics to support improved fundraising performance
- Develop and prepare highly segmented reports and mailing lists according to a high-volume, time-sensitive production calendar
- Participate in setting reporting priorities and establishing control mechanisms to ensure the effective review and timely completion of projects
- Use existing tools to extract, transform, and load data from external systems into the database of record (Ellucian Banner)
- Identify data integrity issues and recommend appropriate resolutions
- Contribute to the implementation of the data warehouse in collaboration with the university’s central IT team
- Train DAE staff on reporting tools and provide oversight and enforcement of data security
- Play a vital role in supporting the University’s migration to a new CRM
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field or equivalent work experience
- Familiarity with Development and Alumni Engagement specific applications, online alumni communities, and volunteer management tools and/or significant experience with other comparable systems, the complexity of data, functions, and service for constituent data and relationships
- Ability to leverage both legacy and leading-edge technologies to support DAE programs and services
- 1-3 years of experience working with relational databases (Banner Advancement experience preferred); SQL, R, and/or Python; and dashboards and reports in Tableau
- Demonstrated ability to interpret and present information and ideas clearly and accurately in writing, verbally, and through the preparation of reports and other materials
- Excellent analysis and problem-solving competence as well as organization, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, complex work environment to manage expectations and complete tasks within a specified timeframe, and adapt to changing situations and priorities
- Comfort in an environment that places high emphasis on continuous improvement, teamwork, and excellent customer service
- Ability to adhere to University COVID-19 Policy
WORK MODE Hybrid/Remote – Employees hired for this position primarily work remotely with the occasional on-campus presence required with advanced notice. Employees in this role will also be expected to use their best judgment to be on campus when necessary in order to best fulfill the responsibilities of their job descriptions.
