Position Focus:
The Director of the Yale Law School Fund is a member of the School's Alumni Engagement and Development (AED) team, reporting to the Director of Development. The Director of the YLS Fund is responsible for overseeing reunion and non-reunion solicitations of annual unrestricted gifts as well as developing and implementing strategies to sustain the current success and future growth of the $5+ million annual giving program. This is an opportunity to lead a critical area of fundraising for a top law school with an engaged alumni base and a strong tradition of philanthropy. Joining at the outset of the public phase of the Yale University campaign, For Humanity, the director will serve as a catalyst for the growth of YLS' philanthropic constituency.

The Director: Oversees the multi-channel solicitation efforts on behalf of the Yale Law School annual fund. Has bottom-line responsibility for the YLS annual fund, meeting all financial and donor participation goals established in collaboration with AED team. Sets near and long-term staff performance, financial, and participation goals, developing a coordinated matrix of communication and solicitation strategies and timelines focused on expanding the tradition of annual support among YLS alumni and friends. Helps organize and manage reunion class giving; works with class leaders to develop and implement class fundraising plans, set class goals, and prepare appeal letters. Contributes to direct marketing stewardship efforts, including donor acknowledgements, an annual donor honor roll publication, and other targeted touches, to include donor recognition societies and cultivation events for annual fund contributors. Guides student and recent graduate giving programs. Manages special gift initiatives as needed. Participates in the development and implementation of AED's strategic enterprise-wide and annual giving specific priorities. Conducts proactive analysis of segment and marketing channel performance and research (data mining, modeling, surveys, focus groups, benchmarking). Prepares key statistical and management reports as needed to monitor and expand annual giving revenue and participation. Prepares reports and presentations on giving and participation progress, including reunion activities and progress against strategic and annual plans, as well regular updates on activities and actions for volunteers and AED leadership.

Manages one coordinator. Contributes to data integrity and gift management efforts. The Director will have a deep understanding of and demonstrated ability with a multichannel annual giving approach, including direct mail, audience segmentation, email solicitations, peer-to peer solicitations, and social media approaches that increase dollars and donors in support of the annual fund. The successful candidate will be a collaborative, innovative, strategic, creative and intellectually curious/broad thinker who has a demonstrated track record of driving and inspiring a culture of giving. This individual will create new fundraising, communication, and stewardship strategies that build on the University and School's strong tradition of philanthropic giving and committed alumni base.

Essential Duties:
1. Directs one or more functional areas within an administrative department of the University and ensure compliance with University policies and procedures. 2. Directs analytic and research support for educational policies and planning and develops and approves administrative policies affecting assigned functional areas of the University. 3. Directs and establishes parameters for major projects for the department and University. 4. Interprets federal policies and regulations and educates staff and administration about regulations, restrictions, and the legal responsibilities of the University. 5. Directs and implements policy and program modifications and develops standards to ensure compliance with federal, state and local regulations. 6. Develops and administers an operating budget for the assigned department consistent with University policies and procedures. 7. Develops cost savings objectives and goals; authorizes major purchases and negotiates contracts that range from routine to complex in nature. 8. Establishes and implements long- and short-range goals for the functional area consistent with University goals and objectives. 9. Directs the development of related automated systems to support the function; determines office policies and procedures for use of automated systems. 10. Directs the evaluation and selection of vendors and negotiates contract details including work steps and pricing with the vendors on behalf of the assigned functional area. 11. Works with internal and external contacts to solve problems that range from routine to complex in nature. 12. Represents the University in discussions and negotiations with various governmental agencies. 13. Directs a staff of exempt and nonexempt employees. 14. May perform other duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience:
Bachelors Degree in related field. Six years of experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Required Skill/Ability 1:

Demonstrated supervision and management skills. Must be able to work in a team-based environment, and have the ability to direct and motivate staff and volunteers.

Required Skill/Ability 2:

Demonstrated success in running successful annual giving campaigns, and in developing and executing an annual giving strategy and plan that leverages data to drive retention, acquisition, and upgrades.

Required Skill/Ability 3:

Excellent communication, interpersonal, presentation, and organizational skills. Commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive workplace.

Required Skill/Ability 4:

Must have strong computer software skills including MS Office, Excel, Power Point, databases, and networked information systems. Must also have excellent analytic skills to ensure data-driven results.

Required Skill/Ability 5:

Ability and willingness to travel, and work some weekends and evenings as needed.


Preferred Education, Experience and Skills:
Experience in a complex, matrixed university setting working with alumni and donors. Familiarity with Yale University.
