Development Manager

The Opportunity

The Asian Cultural Council is seeking an experienced Development Manager to join our New York-based Advancement team. This position is ideally suited for someone who is interested in working on all facets of development, including individual giving, institutional giving, and special events.  The Manager will take on a variety of fundraising initiatives within a nimble team, and ACC is open to candidates of various fundraising experiences. 

The Development Manager will be responsible for solicitations to individual and institutional donors, database management, prospecting research, and cultivation event planning.  The abilities to think strategically and proactively, take initiative and self-manage, and work collaboratively in a small team environment are musts.

 ACC’s New York staff are currently on a hybrid schedule with 3 days in the office and 2 days remote, subject to future change depending on COVID policies.

 Responsibilities

  • Work with the Director of Advancement to create, implement, and execute annual fundraising strategy, focusing on both individual and institutional funders.
  • Solicit annual support through well-crafted appeals/letters/grant proposals and in-person meetings.
  • Maintain donor database, gift tracking documents, project calendars, and income budget.
  • Create and write year-end and grant final reports in collaboration with Programs team and other staff.
  • Create print and digital fundraising collateral, such as decks, annual report, newsletters, and brochures, in collaboration with Advancement staff.
  • Actively seek acquisition opportunities and identify new sources/opportunities for funding, and conduct prospect research as needed.
  • Assist Director in identifying prospects and supporting solicitations for ACC’s Campaign.
  • Maintain excellent donor relations and steward specific individual and institutional donors as needed.
  • Prepare briefings and support material for Board, committee, and donor meetings.
  • Help plan, manage, and staff donor public programming and cultivation events.
  • Manage and track donor benefit fulfillment.
  • Manage broad-based donor communications as needed.
  • Prepare grant budgets in collaboration with the Director and the finance team.
  • Support biennial gala fundraising efforts through planning, solicitations, and benefit fulfillment.
  • Liaise with global offices on collaborative fundraising efforts.
  • Update and maintain development information on the website and social media.
  • Manage external consultants and interns as needed.

 Skills and Abilities

  • Exceptional interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Proven ability in crafting effective gift solicitations, reports, and supporting materials.
  • Strong attention to detail with great project management skills and the ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects and deadlines at a time.
  • Experience creating and managing event programming and schedules.
  • Proficiency in utilizing donor database/CRM for reporting, segmentation, and analysis.
  • Experience with research and wealth engines is a plus.
  • Ability to exercise discretion and excellent judgement in handling sensitive information.

 Education, Experience, and Knowledge

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 3-4 years development experience in the non-profit sector
  • Strong financial and budgeting understanding
  • Strong understanding and proficiency with various donor gift vehicles, such as DAFs, and complex pledge/gift structures
  • Experience with arts and cultural organizations and/or international organizations is preferred
