Department

 

 

Our dynamic Development Department is responsible for raising over $750 million annually in funds in order to meet the financial needs of our organization. The Planned Giving team is responsible for raising approximately $80 million from Planned Giving donors.

 

 

Project

 

 

  1. Purpose of the Job

 

Under the guidance of the Assistant Director, Planned Gift Administration (AD), the Associate will support the planned giving program with a focus on bequest administration and related reporting.

 

 

Tasks

 

  1. Job Functions and Responsibilities

 

Bequest Administration

 

  • Review and process all new bequest notices and creates estate accounts.
  • Review and process will and trust documents, estate updates and legal correspondence.
  • Assess and carefully document MSF’s interests and the value of MSF’s interests for estates and trusts.
  • Monitor and document estate activity and flag potential issues and items for review.
  • Provide regular updates to the AD on estates that require higher level input.
  • Follow up with executors, attorneys, family members, financial institutions or other related parties as needed.
  • Assist team with processing of inherited accounts.
  • Process gifts from estates and trusts.
  • Manage weekly gift acknowledgments, and oversee bequest thank you note process to ensure that executors or family members are thanked on a timely basis.

 

Systems & Reporting

 

  • Stay abreast of any system or process developments which may impact our work and provide support to the team as needed.
  • Analyze and recommend improvements to system and workflows as needed and keep business rule documentation up to date.
  • Run regular reports to maintain data integrity and hygiene.
  • Run regular reports of estate activity to identify and prioritize follow up.
  • Analyze and provide reporting on estate giving patterns and revenue. Assist with revenue projections.
  • Run monthly statistics.

 

Other

 

  • Assist with Charitable Gift Annuity (CGA) program as needed and as back up support.
  • Train planned giving admin interns.
  • Actively participate and promote a culture of inclusion and belonging at MSF.
  • Stay abreast of MSF activities by attending presentations, lunch & learns, staff meetings, etc. and builds general overall knowledge of the organization.
  • Other tasks as assigned.

 

 

Qualifications

 

  • Bachelor’s degree required and at least three years’ experience in non-profit fundraising with some knowledge of planned giving
  • Excellent organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail
  • Strong critical thinking skills
  • Responsible, driven and able to work independently
  • Excellent oral, written communication and interpersonal skills
  • At least two years’ experience working with donor databases. NPSP (Salesforce) is a plus
  • Strong computer literacy
  • Ability to handle a large volume of work under some time pressure
  • Genuine commitment to the principles and work of MSF, passion for MSF's mission and brand

 

Expected to work in a hybrid remote work environment with the ability to come into the NYC office a minimum of 2 times a week, as this position is located in the NY headquarters office.
