Position Overview:
The Development Manager, North America (NA), reports to Development Director and is an integral part of the Development team. We are seeking a dynamic, personable, results-oriented and experienced professional to help continue our success in the NA market. Responsibilities include implementing fundraising and market growth strategy throughout the US and Canada by focusing on the cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of major donors and prospects. The Development Manager must also be committed to our cause and a self-motivated team player who thrives in a collaborative environment, carries their own portfolio, and meets a personal revenue goal between $1.7M-$2.25M based on current portfolio value.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Manage, steward, and solicit a portfolio of 100+ Individuals and Family Foundations (IFF) as well as Corporations and Foundations (CF) donors in the US and Canada.
- Work with the Development Director to identify new funding opportunities and develop a significant pipeline of prospective donors on the West Coast
- Assist the work of the North America team and Development Director, including regional business planning, North America Board activities, grants proposal writing and income tracking and forecasting for the market.
- Collaborate on key donor relationships and achieve revenue targets through careful moves management, and donor and grants prospecting strategy
- Develop long-term cultivation and stewardship strategies utilizing the expertise of key Room to Read staff and leadership in deepening donors’ commitment to the organization
- Collaborate with the global fundraising team to prepare donor communication materials, including concept notes, grant proposals, donor updates, reports and mailings, and additional materials
- Stay current with organizational strategies and program details and current fundraising trends in order to recommend potential funding opportunities to donors
- Manage the Development Associate
Required Qualifications:
- At least seven years of relevant work experience achieving fundraising results, including relationship management and income generation
- Experience cultivating individual and corporate donors and securing five and six-figure donations
- Ability to work successfully in a fast-paced environment while managing multiple projects and priorities, paying close attention to details and results
- Prior success working closely and building relationships with diverse groups of people
- Ability to be flexible and proactively problem solve, and work both independently and collaboratively
- Experience managing staff
- Fundraising experience in a fast paced, growth-oriented organization
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
- Excellent English verbal and written communication skills
