Job Description:

Raritan Valley Community College has an anticipated opening for a Development Associate within the RVCC Foundation. 

The Development Associate supports philanthropic activities that engage corporations and private foundations to help the Foundation achieve its annual fundraising goal. The Development Associate will also be responsible for managing the Foundation's scholarship program through the AwardSpring platform. The position reports to the Executive Director of the Foundation.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Funds Development:

Identifies grant and sponsorship opportunities with businesses, corporations, and private foundations. Monitors proposal deadlines, writes and submits proposals, and stewards relationships, and manages all from development of a dynamic grantmaking/fundraising plan.

Identifies prospects through prospect research, then develops specific customized cultivation and solicitations strategies. Manages a portfolio of a minimum of 15 donors that includes, but may not be limited to, corporate and private foundation constituents.

Supports fundraising and cultivation event planning and execution as a member of the Foundation team.

Administers the RVCC Foundation's scholarship offering through AwardSpring:

Leads administration of the RVCC Foundation's scholarship platform (hosted on AwardSpring) to successfully managing scholarship portfolio.

Establishes/manages scholarship application deadlines and communication to students.

Establishes reviewer groups and manages the process for scholarship awarding.

Co-leads planning and execution of Annual Scholarship Dinner.

Develops and Grows Internal College Relations with Students, Faculty, Administrators and Staff:

Serves on College committees as appropriate.

Engages with relevant faculty to cultivate for grantmaking activity.

Takes lead with faculty on submitting relevant funding proposals.

Takes lead in prepping faculty and staff for donor meetings and visits.

Operations:

Prepares for and participates in Foundation Board and committee meetings.

Handles inquiries related to scholarship program and anticipates ways to improve program.

Keeps records and activity current in Raiser's Edge database.

Requirements:

    Bachelor's degree and minimum of three years of fundraising and non-profit experience required.  Strong written communication skills; ability to write clear, structured, articulate, and persuasive proposals. Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate with a wide range of individuals and constituencies in a diverse community. Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, multi-task, be flexible, and manage the completion of multiple projects with positive attitude and team orientation. Knowledge of prospect research, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies. Knowledge of and strong skills in Raiser's Edge and strategic database segmentation.  Familiarity with AwardSpring or similar scholarship administration platform. Advanced word processing skills and proficiency in the full suite of Microsoft Office programs, e.g., Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Extensive knowledge of budget processing and ability to pay attention to detail and maintain accurate records. Ability to handle multiple competing duties and projects, work well under pressure, and meet deadlines.  Knowledge/interest in higher education.  Knowledge of the non-profit sector and fundraising as well as knowledge of foundations. Ability to work a flexible schedule to include evening and weekend assignments as needed.  Ability to handle confidential donor/constituency information with sensitivity and integrity.
