The Director of Development and Alumni/ae Relations serves as a
member of the senior administrative team and reports directly to
the Dean of the Law School. Working closely with the Dean, the
Director of Development and Alumni/ae Relations will lead the Law
School’s advancement operation, providing the strategic, tactical
and managerial leadership for both development and alumni/ae
The Director is dedicated to understanding alumni, strengthening
pride and awareness, and facilitating ways to grow and sustain the
base of alumni engaging with and supporting the school. The
Director will offer vision and provide leadership to staff and
volunteers in addition to preparing and overseeing implementation
of comprehensive fundraising activities. This includes, but is not
limited to, annual giving, major gifts, planned giving, and special
- Organize and lead fundraising efforts and set clear objectives
for reaching ambitious fundraising goals.
- Oversee alumni/ae digital strategy, alumni/ae experience
operations, and measuring engagement—through both attitudinal and
behavioral dimensions—of more than 7000 alumni/ae.
- Help to build and strengthen the alumni/ae network by planning
and implementing engagement opportunities that foster lifelong
mutually enriching connections and support New England Law
priorities and initiatives.
- Cultivate a culture of inclusivity and philanthropy to include
events and programs, volunteer opportunities, and community
- Initiate and maintain relationships with alumni/ae leaders,
donors/prospects, and volunteers.
- Support the Dean in major gifts work, including accompanying
the Dean on in-person visits to the top 50 to 75 prospects,
developing cultivation and solicitation plans, and creating
- Manage regional alumni/ae networks and affinity volunteers and
steward relationships with them to maintain and build
self-sustaining alumni networks.
- Lead alumni/ae and student volunteer committees/groups; manage
time, activity, and expectations to achieve goals in support of
- Bachelor’s degree required, advanced degree is preferred, J.D.
- Minimum of five years of successful fundraising experience,
including demonstrated effectiveness and progressive leadership in
prospect identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship
of major gift donors.
- Experience working in the advancement field, preferably in
- Demonstrated ability to interact well with trustees, senior
administrators, staff who report directly to him/her, and the
general school community.
- Demonstrated analytical, organizational and decision-making
skills with follow-up abilities are essential.
- Strong well-developed communication and planning skills, and a
strategic, goal-oriented approach to work.
- Proven ability to develop good working relationships up, down
and across an organization, and easily communicate with a broad
range of audiences
- Must be skilled at making presentations to varied
- Integrity and high standards of professional conduct are
needed, and flexibility in work hours is necessary, since
attendance at periodic evening and weekend meetings and school
events is required.
