Common Justice develops and advances solutions to violence that transform the lives of those harmed and foster racial equity without relying on incarceration. Locally, the project operates the first alternative to incarceration and victim service program in the United States to focus on violent felonies in the adult courts. Nationally, it leverages the lessons from its direct service to transform the justice system through partnerships, advocacy, and elevating the experience and power of those most impacted. Rigorous and hopeful, Common Justice builds practical strategies to hold people accountable for harm, break cycles of violence, and secure safety, healing, and justice for survivors and their communities.

In this new role, the Donor Organizer will collaborate with the Development Team to grow our grassroots giving program, design strategies for meaningful donor engagement and resource mobilization that are aligned with our values, and help build out our development infrastructure. The Donor Organizer will focus on donors who give between $1-$1000 and partner with the Major Gifts Officer on a collaborative strategy to engage our mid-level donors who give between $1000-$10,000. The Donor Organizer will report directly to the Director of Development and will join a Development team that includes the Manager of Institutional Giving, Major Gifts Officer, and Development Coordinator.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Refining and implementing Common Justice’s grassroots giving and overall donor engagement strategy in collaboration with the Major Gifts Officer and Director of Development
  • Collaborating with the Major Gifts Officer and Director of Development on strategies to grow a multiracial donor base
  • Providing creative thought partnership and support on grassroots donor cultivation, stewardship, and solicitation strategies
  • Drafting donor communications materials and appeals in partnership with Communications
  • Building meaningful relationships with donors and bringing a community-centric approach to donor engagement
  • Coordinating donor stewardship and fundraising events in partnership with Major Gifts Officer, Communications team, and event planning firm
  • Collaborating with the Development team to build out Common Justice’s fundraising infrastructure
  • Maintaining accurate donor records in the CRM with support from the Development Coordinator
  • Supporting the Development team in co-facilitating the internal Mobilizing Resources Working Group, which offers fundraising peer learning sessions for non-Development staff and helps design grassroots fundraising strategies

QUALIFICATIONS

  • At least 2 years of experience in grassroots fundraising or community organizing. Experience with community-centric fundraising and resource mobilization approaches is a plus
  • Track record of maintaining and growing an individual donor base or of executing organizing campaigns
  • Strong commitment to social justice. Working knowledge about structural inequities and how they impact fundraising is a plus
  • Demonstrated ability to build relationships and trust across diverse life experiences and backgrounds
  • Experience using donor management systems and maintaining accurate records. The ideal candidate will be a strong thought partner to the Director of Development in building out our CRM for donor management
  • Strong understanding of and respect for boundaries. The ideal candidate will partner with the Director of Development in cultivating a balanced work environment within the team and with donors
  • Strong written and oral communication skills. The ideal candidate will be able to write clear and compelling copy, represent Common Justice in a variety of settings, and articulate our nuanced framework about solutions to violence without relying on incarceration with donors
  • Strong project management skills and attention to detail. A meticulous eye for detail combined with the ability to let things be good enough rather than perfect when needed is a plus
  • Formerly incarcerated people strongly encouraged to apply
