Maryville Academy helps children and families reach their fullest potential by empowering intellectual, spiritual, moral, and emotional growth. The Maryville Academy Foundation (the Foundation) exists to raise funds to, primarily but not exclusively, support the growth and development of new and existing programs at Maryville Academy. Through the Foundation’s support, 5,300 individuals were served last year.

Reporting to the President of the Foundation Board, the newly established role of Chief Development Officer (CDO) is responsible for all fundraising efforts of the Foundation, with a focus on major gifts, planned giving, special events, and special projects/campaigns. Working closely with the Foundation Board, the CDO will work in collaboration to advance the Foundation’s philanthropic activities and increase opportunities for donors to make major gifts and bequests. Maryville enjoys strong pockets of existing support from the Chicago area, as well as through its leadership, holds significant potential for new donor engagement.  This position will have an office in Des Plaines, Illinois, and will have access to the Maryville Academy's senior leadership, mission team, and support services.

Some specific requirements include:

  • A minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in leadership and management, with documented ability to manage staff and lead teams.
  • Two years of experience managing a development office; and 1-2 years of cultivating and soliciting major gifts.
  • Track record of success in cultivating relationships and soliciting gifts, and the ability to bring those skills to the Foundation.
  • Proven success in building strong and productive work teams with a focus on mentoring and nurturing staff development.
  • Strong analytic and strategic-thinking skills, with a demonstrated ability to create, implement, and monitor complex plans, then translate those plans into goals and concrete strategies.
  • Excellent computer skills; experience using Raiser’s Edge and Blackbaud fundraising software; CFRE certification preferred.

This position has an office in Des Plaines, Illinois, offers a competitive market-based salary range of $135,000 - $145,000 commensurate with experience, with health, dental, and vision benefits. This role is, for payroll purposes, an employee of Maryville Academy, but reports specifically to the Foundation Board, and will initially be the sole employee of the Foundation. Full-time employees also have access to flex spending, retirement matching contributions, paid vacation and sick days, and paid holidays.

Maryville Academy was founded in 1883 by the Archdiocese of Chicago as an orphanage to house and educate children orphaned by The Great Chicago Fire, Cholera, and the Yellow Fever epidemic. Over its almost 140-year history, Maryville has adapted to the changing needs of society. Today, no longer an orphanage, Maryville’s mission is to protect children and strengthen families through its 19 programs which fall under four primary services: Early Childhood Engagement, Education, Family and Residential Care, and Transitional Healthcare. Of note, Maryville Academy is a Catholic organization but almost 80% of the children and families supported are not Catholic. The Academy and the Foundation are committed to serving the needs of the entire community.

Maryville Academy Foundation’s mission is in close alignment with the values and mission of Maryville Academy. There is a cordial, supportive, and working partnership between Maryville leadership and the Foundation Board of Directors, donors, and the community.
