Come join a team of dedicated staff at an exceptional time in the Smithsonian’s history:  the creation of the Smithsonian American Women's History Museum.  Decades in the making, the Smithsonian American Women’s History Museum will recognize women’s accomplishments, the history they made, and the communities they represent. To create a more equitable America, the Smithsonian is researching, disseminating, and amplifying the histories of American women through its American Women’s History Initiative in preparation for the future Museum. The Smithsonian wants the role of women in American history to be well-known, accurate, acknowledged, and empowering. The legislation creating the Smithsonian American Women’s History Museum was established by Congress in December 2020.

Following the success of the Smithsonian’s first comprehensive capital campaign, the largest ever undertaken by a cultural organization, the Smithsonian has built a model fundraising organization. The Smithsonian American Women’s History Museum seeks an enthusiastic and detailed-focused Advancement Associate to provide support to the advancement team. The position provides technical and administrative support and will assist with a full range of advancement functions including drafting documents and presentations, conducting donor research, implementing various appeal campaigns, assisting with donor events and board meetings; as well as performing data management, gift processing, and other related administrative tasks.

Qualified candidates will successfully demonstrate strong communications skills, an ability to successfully manage multiple deadlines, superior organization skills, and a thirst for learning. Attention to detail and an intuitive administrative aptitude are essential. A minimum of two-years of experience in supporting an advancement team or group with equivalent demands and pace is required. Experience in a large, complex non-profit organization desired.

The Smithsonian Institution is the world's largest museum, education, and research complex, comprised of 21 museums and galleries, nine research centers, libraries, the National Zoological Park and more than 200 affiliate museum partners. The Smithsonian Institution offers a competitive salary and a comprehensive package of benefits. This is not a federal position but has similar requirements and benefits. Interested candidates should submit their resumes and a cover letter to oastaffing@si.edu by August 12, 2022. Please include the position title in your e-mail subject line. Resumes should include a description of your paid and non-paid work experience that is related to this job; starting and ending dates of job (Month and year); and average number of hours worked per week.
