Summary/Objective The Mid-level Gifts Officer
position at WAMU 88.5 manages a portfolio of approximately 20-30
major donors and a portfolio of 400-600 mid-level donors,
cultivating relationships, soliciting gifts and assuring that
donors are retained and upgraded in their giving and involvement.
The role also provides input and oversight of the WAMU
Leadership Circle, our mid-level giving program, including all
donor communications (mail, digital, etc), along with other donor
cultivation and stewardship activities and events. As appropriate,
this person will identify those mid-level donors from their
portfolio who have the capacity and readiness to become major
donors to WAMU and work collaboratively with the major gift
officers to seamlessly transfer the relationship. The
Mid-level Gifts Officer creates stewardship plans, sets individual
goalsand develops an authentic relationship with each donor in a
focused portfolio of major donors to discover donor interests and
organization priorities, in order to help donors accomplish their
philanthropic goals and ambitions in partnership with WAMU. The
Officer plans and manages relationship journeys that include
qualifying, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding prospects and
donors. Working collaboratively across the organization, the
individual secures project and program information and creates
compelling cultivation pieces and stewardship reports to donors.
The Mid-level Gifts Officer is responsible for meeting the
financial goals set for the position and creating monthly and other
timely reports to track portfolio performance and activity.
The Mid-level Gifts Officer reports to the Director of Development.
The position must handle sensitive and confidential information
with discretion. Essential Functions
- Qualifies a caseload of 20-30 major donors from a larger group of donors to the organization. Creates individual goals for each person on the caseload based on donor’s history of giving and the knowledge of that donor’s potential and creates a plan for each donor that will serve as a foundational communication and marketing plan for each prospective donor. Executes plans to meet individual and departmental goals, ensuring that donors on the caseload are retained and upgraded, including, but not limited to, face to face visits. Conducts basic prospect research for portfolio.
- In collaboration with Membership Team creates communication plan and donor journey for Leadership Circle program to include direct mail, email, and other channel touchpoints to drive deeper engagement and increase lifetime value. Manage a caseload of 400-600 mid-level with personal touch points and engagement opportunities. Manage stewardship for the Leadership Circle program. Plan and execute an annual Leadership Circle program communications and stewardship calendar.
- Creates monthly reports as required by management that accurately reflects Leadership Circle program activity and performance as well as caseload activity and performance.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent.
- 3-5 years of relevant experience.
- 3+ years of successful individual giving experience.
- Extensive knowledge of the Washington, DC area philanthropic community.
- Successful track record in moving donors up the giving continuum.
- Competency in prospect identification, cultivation, solicitation and donor relations.
- Highly organized with the ability to multi-task, set priorities, and meet deadlines.
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills – both verbal and written.
- Self-motivated, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 as well as industry-standard research and analytics processes.
