JOB TITLE: Senior Major Gifts Officer

DEPARTMENT:  Advancement

REPORTS TO: Vice President for Advancement and Alumni Relations

Summary: This position is directly responsible for frontline fundraising.  The Senior Major Gifts Officer will be responsible for identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and successfully stewarding qualified prospects and donors.  They will also meet regularly with deans, faculty, and administrators to understand major priorities and goals and to provide timely information on donor cultivation.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Fundraises using a strategic and systematic focus on closing multi-year commitments from high net-worth individuals.
  • Regularly coordinates and attends donor and prospect meetings
  • Maintains and manages a stewardship calendar
  • Writes gift proposals and makes other asks designed to meet or exceed budget goals, with a strong focus on fundraising for our PhD program and around various DEIA initiatives
  • Actively moves management of a portfolio of 150-175 donors and prospects with gift capacity of $50,000 or more
  • Designs and applies a custom cultivation strategy to each donor and prospect in their pipeline
  • Coordinates and attends internal strategy meetings to determine and define the areas of greatest fundraising needs
  • Proactively identifies and completes initial qualification research on potential major donors outside UArts’ existing network

Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required.

Experience:

  • Minimum 5-7 years demonstrated successful fundraising experience, preferably in higher education (or a comparably complex organization); CFRE certification preferred
  • Demonstrated record of success in generating significant ($50,000+) commitments from donors
  • Demonstrated ability to manage a diverse portfolio and steward donors through a moves management cycle
  • Familiarity with fundraising database systems (Raiser’s Edge preferred)

 

Competencies, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and networking skills are essential
  • Ability to maintain a high level of poise and professionalism in all circumstances
  • Ability to initiate and build relationships with prospective donors and campus partners, interacting in person as well as by telephone and other electronic means
  • Arts literacy, and some familiarity with the Philadelphia arts/university funding community, is preferred
  • Familiarity with, and commitment to, diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives necessary
  • Proven ability to manage multiple unique projects at once
  • May be trained to use data management tools
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office suite, Google applications, Zoom
  • Ability to budget and manage university purchasing card
  • Must be able to work evenings and weekends as warranted
