Manager, Fundraising Impact Story Development

The Manager, Fundraising Impact Story Development exists to ensure narrative content is available to serve the needs of fundraising colleagues. They will work with closely with staff from across the organization, in particular Communications and Program, and within established processes to identify, coordinate and then develop initial and various forms of narrative that bring Share Our Strength’s impact to life. The Manager will have some engagement with story subjects (which might include program staff, partners, or families) and craft qualitative understanding of how the organization’s work is directly effecting change and generating positive community outcomes. The content created will be used to  support fundraising and development of other externally facing materials. This role will also play an important role in ensuring the narratives are created with a racial equity, diversity, inclusion and accessibility lens and using asset-based framing. 

This position is preferably based in Washington, DC, but could be fully remote for the right candidate.
 

Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Work with fundraising team to clarify and identify their narrative needs (i.e., by program area, geography, funding audience, and other factors).
  • Work closely with Program and Communication team members  to identify potential stories from the field.
  • Work with Program and Communication staff; local partners, including schools and non-profits; families and other individuals to craft compelling narratives about impact and experience of families and communities we work, for use in fundraising and other external materials.
  • Manage work flows and projects to ensure creation of effectively framed stories, and completed within deadlines.  
  • Coordinate informed consent and review of stories with their subjects and maintain and reinforce guidelines for story usage internally.
  • Ensure stories are centered in equity and use asset-framing language in alignment with organizational guidelines and standards.
  • Partner with colleagues to support Share Our Strength's work to be a diverse and inclusive organization, and ensure this value is embedded in the organization and throughout our work. 

Qualifications: 

  • 5-7 years of experience in journalism, creative development, or other creative arts roles. 
  • Experience in storytelling for non-profits a huge plus. 
  • Emotional intelligence and strong orientation towards customer service (internally and externally).
  • Strong interpersonal and verbal/written communication skills, with the ability to tailor messaging and level of detail to different audiences.
  • Strong ability to organize own work and perform independently while closely and appropriately overseeing and collaborating with team members.
  • Solid computer skills, particularly MS Office Suite.
  • Flexible, creative, comfortable with change, and advancing projects in a dynamic environment.
  • Interest in anti-hunger and anti-poverty issues.
