About Theatre Development Fund

Theatre Development Fund, Inc. (“TDF”), a not-for-profit organization, founded in 1967 to promote the performing arts, is a broadly-oriented service and advocacy organization dedicated to bringing the power of the performing arts to everyone. TDF’s activities fall into three areas. TDF expands access, making the performing arts accessible to all by removing cultural, physical and financial barriers. TDF cultivates communities of theatergoers by engaging, educating and encouraging people to make the performing arts an essential part of their lives. TDF supports theatre makers and sustains creators, advancing the industry through convenings, research and the TDF Costume Collection. Through its programs, TDF brings theatre into the lives of over 2,000,000 people per year. TDF’s efforts are primarily focused in New York, but it has also been involved in audience development efforts for the performing arts across the United States and, on a limited basis, internationally.

About the Position

The Institutional Giving Manager reports directly to the Deputy Director of Development, and is responsible for managing TDF’s Institutional Giving portfolio of 40+ Foundation and Corporate funders and prospects. The Institutional Giving Manager will collaborate with the Deputy Director of Development and TDF’s contracted Grant Writer to seek out, cultivate, and solicit new institutional funders and manage existing grants. This position will also support efforts around fundraising from Government entities.

The right candidate for this position will be a strong and efficient writer, adept at crafting informative narratives and capable of consistently meeting grant deadlines. This position regularly coordinates with colleagues across the organization to gather necessary information for proposals and reports, and must be able to keep clear, consistent records to ensure grant requirements are being met and to communicate progress with the team.

The work for this position has the possibility of a hybrid schedule, which is typically 35 hrs/week. Some evenings and weekends may be required. TDF is requiring all staff to be fully vaccinated and boosted and will require proof of vaccination.

In addition to the above, this position will be responsible for tasks including but not limited to the following:

  • Manage cultivation and stewardship of funders; ensure regular touch points such as invitations to events and site visits as well as timely reporting; track activity using organized donor records and moves management system in Tessitura, TDF’s Customer Relationship Management Software.
  • Support the work of the contracted Grant Writer in preparing proposals and report narratives complete with approved financial documents for select funders.
  • Ensure the terms of all grants are fulfilled; maintain grant calendar and execute action items.
  • Write and send acknowledgments for institutional gifts.
  • Seek out new prospects for institutional giving; work with Deputy Director of Development and contracted Grant Writer to prepare and execute strategies to solicit new gifts.
  • Manage collection of internal data from TDF staff for inclusion in grant proposals and reports.

 

About you:

  • You have a love of the performing arts and a strong interest in making it accessible to all.
  • You are confident in your written communications, including your ability to use data and anecdotes to craft the right narrative for your audience. Experience writing grants or other narrative forms is preferred.
  • You are deadline-oriented with time management skills to effectively prioritize multiple projects at once.
  • You have experience working with philanthropic CRM databases; Tessitura preferred.
  • You are a creative problem solver, eager to find and conceive of new ways to engage prospective funders.
  • You are a collaborator ready to marshal internal resources to help build cases for funders.
  • You have 2-4 years of experience in fundraising or other managerial or administrative positions with an emphasis on writing.

Compensation and Benefits

Salary range is $60,000 - $65,000 and an excellent benefits package is offered which includes medical, dental, vision and PTO.
