About Jewish Food Society (JFS): JFS is a non-profit organization that works to preserve, celebrate, and revitalize Jewish culinary heritage from around the world in order to provide young adults with a meaningful connection to Jewish life and identity. We believe in the power of food to cultivate deep engagement, evoke pride, and a sense of belonging. We create impactful content about Jewish culture and history through our digital archive of family stories and recipes, dynamic public events, weekly newsletter, and our storytelling podcast Schmaltzy.

Position Overview: JFS is seeking a dedicated and passionate Development Director to join the team at our New York City office. The Development Director will work closely and in collaboration with the Executive Director (ED) and Chief Operating Officer (COO) to devise and implement strategies to engage both foundations and individuals in supporting JFS’s mission and work. This is a unique opportunity to join a young and dynamic organization on the verge of significant expansion, to shape a new role within its dedicated team, and support it in making a real impact.

Develop and implement a comprehensive fundraising strategy in partnership with the ED, that helps articulate and achieve JFS’s mission and vision and supports organizational growth. Identify, cultivate, and engage prospective donors and foundations with specific interests and/or expertise in areas that align with JFS’s initiatives or strategic priorities. Conduct initial outreach to prospective individuals and foundation prospects to determine feasibility and fit.
Oversee and track the grant cycle and manage grants from start to finish, including writing, submission and reporting.
Manage stewardship of current donors through consistent communication, regular updates throughout the year, and invitations to relevant events and activities. Maintain and manage an active list of potential donors who are in the various stages of cultivation. Create consistent language and marketing materials to be used by board members and staff for fundraising purposes.  Support board cultivation and communication.

Passionate about JFS’s mission and vision and excited to join a fast-paced entrepreneurial organization.  5+ years of experience in major gifts development for a non-profit organization.  Experience in developing and implementing fundraising strategies. A history of successful grant writing.
Strong verbal and writing skills. Comfortable with front-facing communication with potential donors. Well-organized with strong attention to details.
Ambitious and highly motivated, creative, and a committed team-player.

A full-time position with an annual salary of $100,000 -150,000, commensurate with experience.
