Strategic Research Manager

 

The ASU Foundation, one of five nonprofit entities that make up ASU Enterprise Partners, is seeking a Strategic Research Manager.

 

In a partnership with research and fundraising staff members, the Strategic Research Manager will identify new donor investors through innovative, systematic, prospect identification processes and will assist in the development of strategies for engaging and cultivating major gift donors. We have a highly supportive work environment, great partnership with other University fundraising staff, and cutting-edge research resources.

 

 

What you'll do:

 

  • Conduct fast-paced, accurate research for presidential and enterprise executive team members, support research and prospect management and identification for priority leadership projects
  • Be aware of college and unit fund raising priorities and assist in the preparation and implementation of capital and special campaigns
  • Serve as a team leader, trainer and mentor to other members of the team on prospect research, management fundamentals, donor and research databases and fundraising processes
  • Manage research requests, ongoing and special projects workflow, ensuring that all deadlines are met with quality products
  • Proactively identify prospects using fundraising analytics, screening, alerts and routine research activities to determine a donor’s giving capacity, interest and ties to the University
  • Maintain and update individual biographical, financial, business, and relationship information on the alumni and development donor database
  • Initiate and/or assist in new prospect identification and qualification projects and assist in the management and completion of large complex projects
  • Strong understanding of data analytics terminology to facilitate collaboration with the strategic reporting and analytics team
  • Perform in-house data mining, including sophisticated constituent database queries and a strong understanding of statistical modeling concepts
  • In depth understanding of all aspects of real property research, including issues such as assessment vs. market value, property history as well as financing strategies and general market conditions, SEC data, including elements such as compensation information contained in proxies and 10K reports, insider stock options, ownership and transfers
  • Uphold all fundraising and prospect research professional standards and expectations

 

 

What you'll need:

 

  • Collaborative style, combined with the ability and desire to work in a team-based environment 
  • Ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality and responsibility regarding information related to Enterprise Partners, its subsidiaries and University business and confidential prospect information
  • Strong and collegial interpersonal skills and an ability to communicate effectively in person, writing, and by phone
  • Problem solver who can take initiative and set priorities while being flexible 
  • Team-oriented strategist able to effectively manage complex situations involving numerous and sometimes competing constituencies
  • Attention to detail and thoroughness in completing assigned duties
  • Highly organized and able to handle multiple projects
  • Proficiency with and working towards mastery with retrieving and analyzing prospect data to inform cultivation strategies as well as individual and team-level prospect pool management
  • Adept at navigating complex environments with evolving priorities and communication plans
  • Advanced computer skills that include extensive knowledge with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, Power Point) and of development, major donor, gift databases and fundraising
  • Excellent customer relation skills, communication and follow through
  • Strong writing skills and the ability to prepare and deliver presentations

 

 

Relevant Experience:

 

Bachelor’s degree, advanced degree preferred with a minimum of five years’ experience in prospect research, development, fundraising, financial analysis, and/or relevant experience in an academic setting. Strongly prefer candidates with mastery of and competency with the Association of Professional Researchers for Advancement (APRA) Advanced Skill Sets and data analytics.

Working conditions:

 

Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding and manipulating a computer mouse; required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work. Frequent bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 25 pounds. Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities, which may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts. May be required to perform tasks in the field within and/or across University campuses. Ability to clearly communicate verbally, read, write, see and hear to perform essential functions. This position may require some early mornings and evenings to accommodate meetings and events. This position currently requires you to work from the office Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays with Monday and Friday optional remote days.
