Reporting to the Senior Director, Gift Planning, the Associate Director will execute the strategy of the gift planning program of the Foundation. Working closely with members of the annual and major gift teams, Foundation leadership, hospital staff and volunteers, the Associate Director is responsible for development of prospects within all individual gift portfolios as potential planned giving donors. S/He will work closely with gift officers to identify opportunities to maximize gifts from their prospects through planned giving options. The Associate Director may have responsibility for collaborating with the stewardship team of the Foundation to plan and execute stewardship and cultivation events to increase the planned giving pipeline. The position will also work closely with the annual giving team to uncover prospects from the direct response program who may be potential planned giving donors. The Associate Director maintains a portfolio of planned giving prospects and donors and is responsible for the cultivation of these prospects from identification to solicitation and stewardship. The position carries an expectation to raise $500k-$1 million per year from the portfolio.

Minimum Work Experience
5 years of experience in gift planning fundraising (Required)

Required Skills/Knowledge
Excellent listening, negotiating and interpersonal skills to build strong relationships with prospects and donors, as well as with Foundation colleagues and associates.
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, in person and on the phone and have a capacity for engendering confidence and trust.
Success in soliciting significant planned gifts, manage a portfolio efficiently and prioritize without sacrificing your fundraising responsibilities.
Tenacity to follow up with prospects and leads.
Self-motivated and self-directed and can adhere to occasional tight deadlines.
Technical proficiency with the complexities of gift planning (i.e., vehicle types, financial planning, estate planning, tax laws, etc.).
High degree of professionalism, compassion, and discretion coupled with an understanding of working with older and diverse audiences, both internally and externally.
Strong computer skills including all Microsoft applications.
Proficiency in Raiser ’s Edge or other donor database system.
Experience with PG Calc, Crescendo or other planned giving software.

Functional Accountabilities
Cultivate and solicit planned gifts
  • Manage a portfolio of 150 prospects and donors focused on individuals with planned gift potential.
  • Close planned gifts with an expectation of raising $500k-$1 million per year.
  • Accomplish personalized goals set annually that align with Foundation goals, which include financial, activity, pipeline, and personal development goals.
  • Manage and execute effective stewardship and ongoing communication with planned giving donors, including those in the Guardian Society.
  • Provide planned giving expertise and collaborate with gift officers to maximize giving through blended giving techniques and/or non-cash assets.
  • Document donor interactions and proposals in Raiser’s Edge in a timely manner.
  • Manage marketing program for planned giving and other new initiatives to increase planned giving support. This may include working directly with the Foundation communications team to develop effective marketing tools and publications.
  • Assist senior director of gift planning with training opportunities, including staff, board, volunteers with the planned gift options and use of various assets.
