Job Description 

In collaboration with the Director, Institutional Giving and Associate Director, Institutional Giving, the Assistant Director, Institutional Giving will develop and manage a well-coordinated, strategic plan to cultivate, solicit and retain institutional funders. With a portfolio comprised of foundations and family foundations, the desired candidate will advance Jazz at Lincoln Center’s (JALC’s) mission and contributed-income goals by ongoing prospecting and researching; proactive monitoring for new RFPs, funding opportunities and philanthropic trends; and maintaining strong relationships with foundation staff.

The ideal candidate will be an exceptional writer, with a knowledge of music and music education, budgeting and accounting practices, who will work across departments to produce highly compelling collateral materials representative of JALC’s diverse arts and culture and education programming. The Assistant Director, Institutional Giving will also help copyedit major external communications; manage credit lines; and update template proposal/reporting templates for the Development Department.

 

Responsibilities

  • Manage the complete grant process (narrative development, submission and reporting) for a portfolio of foundations and family foundations.
  • Develop persuasive written materials, including proposals, reports, letters of inquiry and decks.
  • Stay abreast of philanthropic trends and identify new funding opportunities.
  • Maintain the grant-deadline calendar and donor database (Tessitura) to ensure accuracy.
  • Work in close coordination with Finance to prepare budgets and budget narratives for grant-funded projects.
  • Update proposal and reporting templates for Department-wide use.
  • Copyedit major external communications and manage credit lines for the Department.
  • Develop and maintain working relationships across the organization to facilitate narrative development and reporting.
  • Participate in cultivation events as needed.

    The ideal candidate is energetic, goal-oriented and creative, with the ability to work both

    independently and collaboratively. The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated record of success in generating significant commitments from foundations and family foundations, with talent for building strong and productive relationships with current and prospective supporters.

    The ideal candidate possesses knowledge and appreciation of the performing arts and jazz.

     

    We offer a comprehensive benefits package, including generous PTO, medical, dental, and a 403(b) plan. This position will work a Hybrid Schedule 3 days in office and 2 days at home.
