The Director of Development for the Anne Frank Center USA will work collaboratively with its leadership and join an expanding team of fundraisers, educators and staff. 


The successful candidate will be externally focused and proactively engage a portfolio of individuals, corporations and foundations who have a potential affinity with the AFC. The Director must be able to enthusiastically and accurately represent the AFC to a variety of constituents while working collaboratively to secure philanthropic investments to benefit AFC.


The Director’s goal is to deliver a comprehensive and integrated constituent engagement lifecycle experience with the goal of expanding philanthropic support and building a robust long-term pipeline through acquisition, retention, and reactivation of donors. The Director will craft and execute relationship-based, donor-centric outreach campaigns and manage the donor relationships.

The AFC USA is a NY based 501c3, that develops and delivers educational programs, inspired by the diary of Anne Frank, that teach young adults about what happens when prejudice and hate are allowed to flourish.  Its programs operate on a national level, in collaboration with multiple partners that share its mission.

Director of Development Job Requirements:


Passion for the AFCs mission is above all else critical, it is the commitment to the work and education that propel it forward.  


What you’ll do:


Establishment of a granular outbound prospecting process, focused on cultivating a specific number of family foundations and individual donors, diligently using our fundraising database, Little Green Light, to track and record progress with the pipeline. 


Comfort and creativity are essential in relating the value of our programs, their impact on young adults and most importantly, making the ask for financial support.


Collaborate with the AFC Team and Board of Directors, as it is a lean decentralized organization and resource allocation is critical, we must use whatever resources we have available, to achieve our goal and mission.


The Director of Development’s goal is to build the AFC USA to $1 million in annual fundraising in 2024. 


Director of Development Assignments:


Assemble a portfolio of 200 prospects with the capacity to make a $10,000 annual gift.   The AFC estimates that there are 5,000 constituents in its donor database.  Prospect research and cultivation to find additional donors who are not in the database, in order to expand our donor base.  


Qualify all donors, including their capacity and inclination to give, determine if the individual is a viable prospect for annual long-term support.


Create an individual plan to cultivate each donor, these are the pipeline steps taken to move the prospect toward solicitation through engagement.


Solicit the prospect, ask for a gift of a specific amount, preferably an unrestricted gift.


Stewardship of each donor.  This includes a thank you, updates, and recognition, and keeping the donor informed about the impact of their gift. 


Development of AFC USA marketing collateral that can be used to explain the AFC’s impact to prospects and current supporters.


Architect, execute and continually refine campaign strategies to grow support from existing donors and attract new donors.


What you’ll need:

Self-motivated and independent, with the ability to influence others without direct control.


Excellent oral and written presentation skills. Ability to adapt complex issues to a specific audience with wide variety of experiences.


Proactive problem-solving skills; ability to anticipate obstacles and quickly generate alternate solutions/ideas.


Thrives in a start up like evolving company environment.


Ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality and responsibility regarding information related to the AFC, its affiliates, and confidential prospect information

Excellent technical skills - MS Office (specifically advanced Excel and PowerPoint)

Hands-on experience working with CRMs.


Relevant qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree and 8+ years successful development, fundraising, and/or loyalty marketing experience, OR any equivalent combinations of education and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.


Working conditions:

Activities are performed in a WFH office. Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities, which may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts. Ability to clearly communicate verbally, read, write, see and hear to perform essential functions. This position may require some early mornings and evenings to accommodate meetings and events. 


Commitment and Compensation:

Full time employment

$90,000 - $110,000 base salary 

Performance based annual bonus 

Reports directly to Board Chair
