ASSISTANT/ASSOCIATE DEAN OF DEVELOPMENT HERBERT WERTHEIM COLLEGE OF MEDICINE

The Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine (HWCOM) at Florida International University (FIU) invites applications for the position of Assistant/Associate Dean of Development. We seek a dynamic and visionary leader that will strategically design and execute an Advancement program resulting in philanthropic support of HWCOM by maximizing the identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of prospects for gifts at the major and principal gift level. This individual will work with the Dean and senior advancement leadership to execute strategic fundraising initiatives, build, and maintain relationships that may generate new philanthropic revenue and provide prospects and donor-related assessments and feedback for the College and the FIU Foundation.

 

The selected candidate will lead efforts to build HWCOM’s Office of Philanthropy, Alumni, and Community Engagement with a leading priority of establishing the major gift fundraising program; will promote creation of a robust HWCOM community of philanthropic support through the engagement and involvement of physician leadership, faculty, administrators, the university community, and our partners; will manage a personal portfolio and raise major and principal gifts through personal solicitation from major prospects, including alumni and friends, corporations, and foundations; and will provide leadership in the stewardship and oversight of gifts and grants related to advancement within the assigned unit. The Assistant/Associate Dean of Development will collaborate with FIU/HWCOM External Relations, FIU Foundation, and other internal and external stakeholders to develop an integrated communication strategy; will ensure that donor communication plans effectively align with the mission, culture, and strategic initiatives of HWCOM and the greater university community; and will work collaboratively with the College of Nursing and Health Sciences and the Stempel College of Public Health and Social Work, as well as other Academic Health Center (AHC) units, including the College of

Engineering and Computing to foster relationships with leadership, faculty, physicians, and scientists to assist in identifying major gift prospects.

 

Minimum qualifications include a Bachelor’s degree and at least ten (10) years of related experience, with seven (7) years of progressively responsible fundraising experience.

 

Preferred qualifications include:

  • Seven (7) or more years of major and principal gift fundraising, preferably in higher education, colleges/schools of medicine and hospital/healthcare facilities.
  • Well-versed in the design and implementation of medical development and industry-specific
  • Experience with Black Baud’s CRM Platform or other fundraising information management systems/databases.
  • Ability and willingness to travel and work flexible hours including evenings and
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and successfully manage competing
  • Ability to handle confidential, sensitive information with the highest degree of
  • Ability to prioritize, organize and perform multiple work assignments simultaneously and accurately in a detail- oriented
  • Ability to influence and engage a diverse pool of
  • A self-starter, comfortable working independently while working well in a team-oriented environment, taking the initiative to be productive and
  • Experience with building successful
  • Experience with creating a comprehensive strategic development
